To get the RHD they desperately need.

I'm trying to understand your logic here, please explain. I can understand Henrique for Risto, but I can't understand why you have Sobotka (I get matching salary but no one will take him) and Silfverberg, in the trade?

This is a pathetic return for Buffalo, we don't need aging players on relatively long contracts

We do not need a RHD that desperately. Silfverberg and Henrique are two of our most consistent forwards and respected veterans. And all I've heard all summer is how bad Ristolainen is in his own end. That's a big no thanks. The Ducks aren't desperate for anybody. They're rebuilding. This team is already fragile enough offensively and you want to ship 40 goals out the door?

Ristolainen is not good. He's a #5-6 D-man. Horrible trade.

Henrique is not as valuable as Risto, needed to add a bit. Sobotka is there to even out the salary.

I understand replacing Silfverberg, but Henrique alone is not enough. Risto is a younger D and he outscored him last season. Something needs to be added.

And considering that the best RHD behind Manson is probably Holzer, I'd call that a desperate need.

Great offensive D. Outscored both of the forwards BUF receives. Game on the own end needs some work, but he's definitely a TOP4 D.

Risto isn't as good as you think. If he is traded, I think you'll be disappointed with the return.

Exactly, and Silfverberg steps up during the playoffs. There is no doubt in my mind that is why BM re-signed Silf instead of moving him at the TDL. Even though he's a very streaky in his scoring, he's a playoff performer and you need those guys if you're to win it all.

This. D-men that need sheltering to look good are not good D-men.

Tbf though, Henrique probably stopped more goals from happening than Risto did last year... hahaha. Jokes aside, I agree that something needs to be added, but something like a pick makes more sense then us moving Silf.

Having said that, I pass. I am not a big fan on off these tall D-men with big frames who are soft and can't defend. I won't pretend to know exactly what the problem is with Risto in his own end. I just don't want to pay a premium for 3rd pairing, PP specialist because he has size that he doesn't use anyway (same goes for Myers). If we're talking about a strictly offensive D-man, I would just prefer having a smaller, more mobile guy in that position (I know Risto is a good skater for his size, but he's obviously not winning an skating competitions against smaller guys).

What good is a great offensive d-man if he's a sieve in his own end? I've made this point before, but if the Ducks were so intent on having a RHD that can put up points but is suspect in his own end they would have kept Montour. We have arguably the best goalie in the league but that does us no good if Gibby is getting bombarded with high-quality scoring chances every game. What we desperately need are six guys who can clear the front of the net and let Gibby see every shot and eliminate second chances. Fowler, Lindholm, and Manson are all capable of putting up decent numbers from the blueline. And I'm sorry, the net loss in point production losing Silvy and Rico in exchange for Ristolainen would be significant. Not to mention how many more goals we'll give up because Rico and Silvy are our two best defensive forwards. This trade would easily make us worse.
