Columbus doesn’t need another D,

Wennberg(900k retained) for Backes, Heinen and 1st.

Seems pretty fair when Toronto has to move a 1st for 1 year of Marleau at just over 6 mil.

TORONTO HAD TO MOVE MARLEAU TO SIGN OTHER PLAYERS. Marleau was owed his full amount. Backes is owed less actual money. If we get to next year he will have 1m salary and a 6m cap hit. you will not need to move him for a first and a 40 point player. Wennberg had one really good year where he shot 11.9% He is a below average faceoff guy, cant really shoot the puck (career average 8.2%) Wennberg isnt worth what is being given up for him. Not at this point in his career. Riley nash would be a better return for the bruins.

Next year the Bs don't need to do this at all, they will just buy out Backes.

Backes, Heinen and a first is way too much for Wennberg. Maybe Backes and Heinen for Wennberg, but I don't love that.

Columbus doesn’t want Backes. So to get him off your team, you’ll have to move something Columbus would want. Doesn’t matter how much he’s owed. Plus next year with a 6 mil cap hit, we still have to sign Anderson, PLD, and others. So there’s 0% Columbus takes his contract, even though he’s paid 1 mil, unless you give up something we’d value in return. That’s how trades work. You give us something we value, and we give you something you value. You want the cap space and want to get rid of Backes and want a 25 year old, who should be a wing, and for us to get value back is at least a 1st maybe more due to the cap implications

Okay. Do that and take this down, because Columbus doesn’t want Backes unless we get something to take that 6mil cap hit.

Leafs did not take cap space back. Backes costs less to buyout then Marleau with less cap hit. You want to use Marleau as the guide then 1st and Backes for 7th. Otherwise the return goes down as cap space coming back goes up.

Honestly, neither team does this one.

Lot better shot at Backes 2nd mid level prospect for Nash.

Totally right, Marleau isn't a comp if you are taking back cap and Backes is owed much less real money.

I've proposed that before and I think it could work out well.
