Gallagher to TBL retaining cap and taking buyouts for increased profit

Created by: Billy739
Team: 2019-20 Montreal Canadiens
Initial Creation Date: Aug. 6, 2019
Published: Aug. 6, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
MTL Trades Gallagher at the TDL with 1 year left on his term before he goes UFA in 2021 summer. Like Plekanec MTL gives Gallagher options for location of trade treating him well in hopes when they bid on his UFA rights in 2021 he'll re-sign like Plekanec

MTL trade Gallagher at 50% retained to give Gallagher a chance at 2 cups runs with TBL in hopes he wins and brings that experience back to MTL in 2021-22 when he becomes UFA and TBL will likely be unable to pay what we can at that time .

its a win win if it works , if it doesnt we still got a fair return and helped a heart and soul guy for us go on a cup run in his Prime years . i think Gallagher would remember that and return home where MTL's young players will have had a few seasons under their belt and could benefit from a 30-31 year old Gallagher's experience he brings back with him as he's sure to hit new heights and possibly even 40+ goals .

i know '' why help teams in our Conference or Division ?''

its about helping Gallagher and leaving the best possible memories in all respects so come UFA time we have a chance at re-signing him . its the smart way to play it as we get asset's back in the mean time until we would have bid on his UFA's rights regardless of him playing here or there .

MTL Trades Gallagher and retains 3.85m and takes a buyout cap hit of 5.6m got judy under 9.5m cap hit in 2019-20 in exchange for two 1st's Vakanainen ,A level Prospect , and a Fortier , B- level prospect .

Backes Buyout hit is 666 K summer of 2021 right when we'd need the cap to re-acquire Gallagher and sign our Free Agents
The hope is in Gallaghers Absence that Tatar , Armia and Petry will step up and increase their value being moved out before Gallaghers would be return .
MTL remains every bit the playoff team they were before the trade with a young Finnish LD to insert in the mix right away while we wait to draft our picks and for Fortier to develop .

Barbasev offersheet is taking into account what the half a dozen people posted last time about Barbashev only being worth 1.5-1.75m in STL eyes . Given STL only has 1.8m cap total with big names needing paid next year they wont be in a position to offer more then that for sure .

MTL offers Barb's a deal knowing his and Danaults chemistry and they chance to re-unite on PP might interest him . longterm Barbs and Danault will occupy 3rd line but for now until our prospects step up they'll play where they are needed most .

if STL will match 2m , ill just remake the post and raise it all the way to 3.2m over 5 years if need be because putting Barbs back with Danault is worth the risk of 2nd round pick given in this scenario i have two plus three 1sts . Barb's brings size and power something MTL could always use more of . he's a middle 6 winger or bottom 6 center at best but will no doubt be worth the cost we paid for him

MTL
  1. Fortier, Gabriel
  2. Palat, Ondrej
  3. 2020 1st round pick (TBL)
Additional Details:
TBL gets an additional 3.45m to add to the 9.3m cap they currently have to sign Point and Erne .

MTL would rather take Killorn a Goal Scoring LW but his deal's almost a million less and doesnt offer as much savings . i took the 3rd highest paid forward because of his Cap but also because its the Role Gallagher would fill the next few years for TBL

in Return MTL gets Palat , 1st in 2020 (likely 28th-31st overall) and a B- Junior Prospect Gabriel Fortier (good bottom 6 goal scorer but as soon as competition gets tough in junior his production cuts in half . if we can get Boullion to help him pack on muscle without losing speed like he did Paul Byron then we got a shot at him being a 3rd line winger for us in 2 -3 years . )
TBL
  1. Gallagher, Brendan ($1,850,000 retained)
Additional Details:
Gallagher at 1.85m for the remainder of this season and next
2.

  2. Vaakanainen, Urho
  3. 2020 1st round pick (BOS)
Additional Details:
BOS adds Krejci's team Czech linemate Palat for a cup run
MTL takes on Backes for buyout purposes to make cap work

MTL gets Vaakanainen and a 1st for taking 6m cap from Backes off their books while also retaining 2m off Palat deal

Would gladly take Zboril or Gryzlk instead as long as the LD is on this level where they can jump to or are in the NHL
BOS
  1. Palat, Ondrej ($2,000,000 retained)
3.
MTL
  1. Morin, Samuel
  2. 2020 7th round pick (MTL)
Additional Details:
Morin and our 7th pick back

PHI gets a 7th D they can use
Morins been kept up due to fear of losing him on waivers for nothing as he's still not NHL ready and been passed over by Hagg ,Sanheim and Meyers in the depth chart over the years

MTL gets a Laval Born Captain in Samuel Morin who's Grit Style will sell a lot of Merch for the 3rd year AHL Expansion team . if we lose him on Waivers o well it was worth the risk plus we got a pick for a player we'd waive anyones and one that would be a healthy scratch half the year .

Gallagher will died with a habs jersey on him! Montreal could not afford to loose him at any cost. He is the heart and soul of montreal. If he is traded it will be next year if they aren’t able too work on a extension

Montreal fans won't be too pleased to see Gallagher go but turning Gally into two 1st's and 2 prospects (mostly Vaakanainen) would be pretty impressive. That's probably what it would take to get a deal done.

Honestly, I don't think Palat will waive his NTC. He's on a potential Stanley Cup winning team this season. All the Tampa forwards with a contract around 5M AAV have a NTC which put them in a difficult situation

BOS is every bit the Contender TBL is
BOS has 2 team Czech teammates of Palat including his linemate Krejci
he'll have a undisputed top 6 role in BOS and the chance to make a bigger impact

to come to MTL , no he'd never waive
to go to BOS with 2 of the best active Czech's in the world , Yes i believe he would waive

agreed

the return is high for a rental with 1 year left
its even higher in some respects then Pacioretty's return but MTL retained a lot more cap to get the return to .
a Finnish top 4 LD , a french forward to develop and 2 firsts in the 2020 draft held in MTL makes MTL a better team

while making us better we are not ripping off other teams to do it but making fair deals for all .
Gallagher in this vision returns in 2021 as a UFA just like Plekanec , Boullion and Brisbois before him he deserves a playoff run while we re-build

honestly boston is just as good as a contender as tampa plus like in the nba the big factor in kawhi to the clippers was paul geroge to the clippers he wanted to play with geroge i can absutely guarentee you that palat would love to play with krecji and be in the top 6 he would waive he isn't waiving to be in mtl it is waiving to be in boston

I have read your post and i just don’t think the risk of loosing gallagher is worth it. I rather take my chance of trading tatar and petry this year at the deadline. Petry might bring something like muzzin last year and if tatar continu like last year i might get us a propect and a first

dont spam people offering nothing in context because you cant read before you're compelled to vomit non sense on others

i dont have any desire to talk to someone who does not contribute to the conversation
there are plenty of people on here with enough common sense to offer something intelligent to the conversation
all you do is take up air

what risk?

there is more risk he has a bad year while we're rebuilding and the fans turn on him
then there is trading him at a high point in hopes he'll return as a UFA

Gallagher's in a position now where wasting all his prime years on a never ending rebuild under Bergavin since 2012 .
We OWE HIM , this isnt about our Ego or our Selfishness

This is about putting him in a position to win while we work things out to clear cap for 2021 to re-sign him
2 posts now the whole angle has been re-signing Gallagher in 2021 and you're ignoring that to go ''what if we lose him''

its my post not yours, this scenario is mine , not yours
i said he's re-signing here in 2021 in this scenario and thats how it friggin is
i get people like to ignore the tons of information i leave explaining all this on 2 posts now
but its getting frigging annoying given all the effort i put in to ruling this out .(in tons of detail so zero excuses )

i get you dont want to lose Gallagher
here's something to think about , if i did would i jump through this many hoops to make sure we got the money for a 5 + year deal at 7+ million for 2021 ? (the answer is no this is an insane amount of work to go through just to do that )
