yeah but if you click long term outlook your boned next summer
20m to sign Pietrangelo , Schenn , Dunn, Fabbri ,Blais and Edmundson .
that's assuming you dont offer Bouwmeester another deal
its already way to tight cap wise , you'd have to walk away from Schenn after all you paid to get him
just to have a chance in hell at making the cap work .

STL has players that can come up and replace a Barbashev of Sunqvist but no one to replace a Pietrangelo or Schenn while hoping to remain a contender

Blais and Fabbri don't sign for more than a Million a piece. Dunn should make a lot of money, but Edmundson if he proves he isn't worth it again this year he is out the door so it's more like 20M to sign Schenn, Pietrangelo, Dunn tbh. Considering Bortuzzo might already be out the door with Reinke coming up. You can also factor in that Steen, Bozak, and Perron could be guys that go the way side. I would assume Blues let Perron go in Expansion Draft again unless they pay to get rid of Bozak or Steen. It's most likely Steen that gets offloaded here soon, and Bozak as well could be offloaded as well with how well Sunqvist has done and Thomas most likely being 2C Bozak and Schenn most likely can be traded as well. Schenn wants to sign, but the likeliness of him being able to play where he wants to play (Center 2C most likely) is probably not in the books of what Berube wants as he is comfortable inserting Robert Thomas there.

Pietrangelo wants about 8M, Schenn wants around 6-7.5, Dunn gets around 5.5M (same deal as Parayko) unless we do a bridge deal which I highly doubt at this point I think we lock him up long-term. Edmundson probably gets traded at Deadline, and since he is a Restricted Free Agent he could go for a good amount. Bozak is now a redundant player. Bozak and Steen are my preference on offloading getting Kostin Kyrou in there and keeping Schenn, but the likeliness is not really there imo. So we aren't really that big on cap right now. Steen should be easier to move based on him being a 1-Year Rental rather than the 3-Year or now 2-Years. It all depends on how Armstrong wants to set his team up. We aren't really boned we have Kyrou, and Kostin coming up so I am sure they will be productive.

Petro gets 8, he isn't worth 9M according to HockeyViz, Colton Parayko is actually the better Defenseman of the 2. I wouldn't mind offloading Pietrangelo for another Defenseman preferably Left Handed.

I think he is worth around O'Reilly/Tarasenko 7.5M. So I think 8M should be about right.

this is already basically the situation, it's also not that boned if you assume Schenn is walking, Thomas is taking his spot in the top 6 and Kyrou will replace Thomas's spot on the 3rd line. You get Dunn for 5+, Pietro for about 9, who gives a crap about Blais or Fabbri, they'll be the same sort of cheap roster filler next year or they'll be gone either way who cares, Eddy is probably overpaid but the Blues need that LHD so Eddy or a replacement will be back for probably 3-4M
That works the 20M just fine
If things go well, in a way you don't want to put too much faith in but isn't an unreasonable assumption, and husso is at least ready to be an NHL backup next year then you dump Allen, Mikkola can take oer at LHD which allows you to watch Eddy walk ,or both. That leaves rooms for another forward or D or both.

It's in 3 years when this roster will be really shook up, most of the roster is out of contract, a lot of those player are walking, and so some young guys like Sundqvist, Barbie, Thomas (though he'll be an RFA getting a raise,), & Kyrou mixed with aging but still very good Tarasenko & O'Reilly along with freshly resigned Pietrangelo & Dunn will be about it. Everything else ahs to be built over the next two years to backfill
