Dubas couldn’t negotiate and buy even one of Matthews UFA years - guy has great vision but not a guy you want signing big name players

All on long term deals. Yes there are small differences with each contract but when you break it down.
Id be totally happy with a 5 year deal at 9.5-10 mil for Marner. Let him go to free agency afterwards if he wants, thats his right.
Do you really think if he signs a 3 year deal at 9.5 million he will be getting 13-15 million a year after that?

This thread kind of encapsulates a large part of this forum. A few people who strongly dislike the leafs, saying Marner is worth as much as a #1 C, should get the most money any RFA winger has ever got, and it doesn't matter what they pay him because he will be gone in 4 years.

Marner is worth 11.5+ but 1 year of his service isn't worth a first?? is Marner good or bad man make up your mind.

Marner led your team in pts the last two seasons, is better defensively than both Tavares and Matthews ... he should get 11.2 over 6 or 7 years. Tavares has another 3-4 years of playing at an elite level. Marners contract you’re paying him through his entire prime.

Don't blame the cap for poor salary management. There are teams that won cups in the past decade (Chicago, LA, Pittsburgh) with tight cap hits.

Toronto fans are by far the most consistent when it comes to over valuation of players.
