Johnson Problem Solved

Created by: AlphaHockey65
Team: 2019-20 Pittsburgh Penguins
Initial Creation Date: Aug. 7, 2019
Published: Aug. 7, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Minnesota move Rask for Johnson (same cap hit w/ retention). Change of scenary for both players.
Pens could add a pick for retention.

Pens then retain 750-900k on Rask and send him elsewhere for a 5-7th round pick.
Essentially saves the Pens a buyout for 8 years on Johnson.

Could be to any team. Picked sharks because I don't think they have a 4C rn?
Rask would essentially be @ 2.5 mil.
Could be a steal for whoever gets him because he could regain 30 pts form
No room on Pens roster for him

Sorry but SJ would never do that. Try harder. Goodrow is 4C and much cheaper. Dumb when they still need to sign Jumbo.

2.5 million for a 30 point forward isn't a steal. there are entry level guys for that. No team would take Rask for that term and price. You would have to add a 2nd rounder at least.

Rask has 1 less year on his contract, so retaining to even up is stupid. Wild don't need cap space this year and they can just buy him out next year. Easy pass.

He had 6 pts last year.
Wild are somehow still trying to contend and rask doesn't really help their cause.
At least Johnson would give them D depth and can fill in when needed.
Pens could add on their end. But it wouldn't cost a 1st to swap these deals even with the retention.

I used SJ as an example.
Rask could even fill a 3C role on a team. I think he can regain form.
Pens could retain up to 850k and still be cap compliant.

There is one potential team that will say yes..after they hire Peter Ciarelli

Rask had 6 points, Johnson was a playoffs healthy scratch. They're both not good, congrats! They're also both owed $12m, just spread over different years. There wouldn't be any salary retention and there's no reason for the Wild to take him given their blue line depth.

no. chiarelli may be the butt end to every joke on here when someone can't think of anything clever to say, but there isn't a team that would actually pay to take Rask at 2.5.

His highest scoring seasons were when he played 17 minutes a night on Carolina's top 6. He won't see that much ice time again, he's at best a $4m 25 point player.

Why wouldn’t Minny send Rask to Edmo for the 7th and not have either Rask’s or Johnson’s garbage contract on their books?
