DET should want nothing to do with Turris anyways. They need less long term risk not more.

But the team is rebuilding thats why the Howard trade makes sense. I totally get the selling low part for Turris tho

If they got Turris it would be a misguided idea to rekindle the WC magic he had with Mantha.

If you want AA with a good C trade him for a package of picks and prospects.

I'm ok with Nielsen being AA's center this year, because he is more responsible defensively, allowing AA to just go. If you are going to get Turris, it has to be a long bad contract for long bad contract swap (Turris for Abdelkader maybe? With a differential in years based on age of the players involved). Nielsen's numbers weren't great, but there are worse contracts to trade on DET than Nielsen (Helm, Abdelkader come to mind). Nielsen and Fil are placeholders for Veleno and Ras (I think Ras goes to GR and plays C for the start of the year). It wouldn't shock me to see Veleno as your 3rd line C next year, and Ras as the 3rd line C the year after next.

I think Turris had a down year in Nashville, so he'd be a bounce-back candidate, And he's still 29, so he could have a few good years left in him (or it could be a continuing albatross).

Want no part of Reimer. Howard at the deadline last year would have returned a 3rd round pick for a short term rental (and SJS should have bought him). He's a decent starting goalie who didn't get a lot of help, and faced a ton of shots (how many backdoor goals did DET give up last year?). He's a good placeholder until the next option is ready.

But there is more going on there between the Wings and Howard. I don't see him being traded at the TDL last season he made it clear he doesn't want to leave his family that's is happy in Detroit. He could have retired at the end of the season and I think he was talked into playing at least a season or 2 with the 1 exception he wants to stay in Detroit. It was done because none of the Wings goalie prospects are ready yet. They signed Pickard for Grand Rapids since Sateri and Rybar both left.

Dude you're retaining on the wrong player, Why in the hell would Yzerman retain $1.75 million on Nielsen for 3 years while taking on Turris full $6 million per over 5 seasons? That's a joke Turris is the one the needs to be retained not Nielsen.
