I know what I hate and I don't hate this...

Aside from the lack of cap space and that it would require some additional moves, it seems fair based on perceived value.

EDM trade..yes. Janmark has no real slot in our roster and I'd like to give a chance for Puljujärvi

NYR trade...nah. If that's Kreider's asking price, it's just too much. One year of player that has never scored over 30 goals a year and his career high is 53 points... While BUF acquired Skinner, who outplays Kreider in all of the mentioned statistics, by a low prospect, 2nd, 3rd and 6th... Yeah how about no.

That's actually an interesting point. Why should NYR get so much for Kreider when there's a good comparable that got moved for a far smaller price.

That trade was considered a steal and Carolina also knew that there was no chance that Skinner was going to resign with them

So? It's all but confirmed that NYR can afford to resign Kreider due to their bad financial state, so they lose that leverage too.

Skinner trade was a f*ck-up from Canes. NYR will get a bigger return for sure, but I'm almost certain the deal isn't going to be as favorable for NYR as they and their fans would wish.

look at the rangers overview at the main page, the rangers have 17m coming off of their forward salary cap for next year, with their buyout only going up by 2m.
With no one else notable to sign, i think they'll be okay.
It's a mistake to give kreider over 6.5m for anything more than 5 years, but in general resigning him will not as big a problem as people make it out to be.

Georgiev won't get much, they can let strome walk easily and same with fast.

View it like this
Namestnikov + fast = difference in shatty's buyout
Beleskey Salary + Strome Salary = 5m in cap space
Salary goes up about 2-3m per year, which will be an 84m cap most likely so an extra what, 2.5?
7m in cap space to resign Kreider (who already makes about 4.5 and will at most get 3m more but that would be a mistake) and then sign two bottom pair forwards for cheap. pretty simple if you ask me

From Edmonton's side I think the trade value isn't terrible, but those pieces aren't really of much interest. Honka is nearly 24, has had 3 stabs at the NHL and can't put up points - and there really isn't much else to his game. Janmark is a bottom-6 winger in the middle of his career, Edmonton has about 20 of those guys. They need a 3C and 2nd line wingers... Faksa, for instance.

Pseudo tempting, but Jan's cap hit & Honka's inability, so far, are powerful deterrents.

I think NYR think long and hard if you simply give up Faksa and Mascherin (and keep the picks). They'd get a proven solid player in Faksa and a prospect with a lot of potential in Mascherin, along with shedding about $2.5M in cap space.
