It seems be going all in all just to acquire a 3rd pair Dmen, admitting on nice contract. Ceci will be OK and Hyman is important Leaf and you want to trade away the potential of LIljegren. Sorry this is really bad for the Leafs.

Wow that is a huge haul for an experienced but replacement level, every day NHL RHD. He's on a super team friendly deal, no question he has value to the Leafs. But Liljegren is a crazy inclusion. He could be Mayfield's equal already, and could be Reilly's partner in the near future...

You are right, Mayfield is a good 3rd pair RD and a team friendly contract. There could be prospects that are better than him, but if the Leafs and Isles made a trade with him I think the target is Kappanen, maybe if the Isles included Bellows also. Ceci and Hyman would not be of interest for the Isles.

Mayfield
Bellows

Kappanen

Would this be interesting for you?

3rd pair? Did you call Mayfield a 3rd pairing defenseman? That's what all Leafs fans think he is lol.

The Isles think he is a 3rd pairing Dmen. He gets the 3rd most minutes of of the three Isles RHD Not that he isn't competent or even good, but geez that's big over payment by the Leafs.

Johnny Boychuk ATOI: 18:50 / Scott Mayfield ATOI: 18:44. Context matters here. Barry Trotz used pulock/pelech as his shutdown pairing and his other two pairings he gave equal ice time.

Scott mayfield and a 3rd for kapenen makes more sense for both teams,

I wouldn’t be against it but I’d rather wait till next year to do it cause 1 I wanna see what kappy can develop more into or if his 20 goals was a fluke and 2 I think Toronto has a good enough dcore on paper when healthy this year

Actually I'm not big fan of the "numbering" systems for Dmen. Take the Leafs, Reilly had an outstanding season but he had lots of PP time. Hainsey, Zaitsev and when he arrive via trade, Muzzin had lot of PK time. Gardiner who was deemed 2nd pairing....saw little PK time and not a tremendous amount of PP time.
Any teams " 3rd pairing" better be NHL competent since they see lots of even strength time.

No Liljegren is a first pairing Dman in October....for the Marlies. Leafs are depending on being important member of the blue line in 2020/21 and for many years after.
