I'd be hesitant to trade Drai and have Strome as the 2nd line center seeing as Nuge might leave after this contract is up. I also worry about the depth on this team, especially with Gagner there. Maybe don't sign him and see if Benson or Marody can play?

Finally, this cap doesn't allow for players like Benson, Yamamoto, Bouchard, Jones, Bear, etc to get any significant pay increase assuming they perform well.

All the criticism above aside, I think this is a solid idea but the cap scares me.

All totally valid concerns. The idea came to me with the supposed "deadline" that McDavid is rumored to have given to Oilers management. Bringing in two of his good friends from Junior could be a step in the right direction

Good trade for Edmonton, bringing in two to three solid forwards for Draisaitl is something they should be exploring imo, waiting around for prospects to develop when you have the best player on the planet is moronic thinking.

As good as Drai is, I think that Chi trade may be too much too expect from them. I mean Debrincat alone just put up 40+ goals. Not sure you can expect Chicago to want to pay more for Draisaitl and get less overall production back. By next year, Debrincat could be a 50 goal scorer himself and Strome a 70+ point guy and Perlini only a 10 goal scorer. Is a Draisaitl alone worth that? IMO no. i'd rather have the 3 players and form the looks of it sop do you.

I would too (I am a Chicago fan)

But, to be fair, Draisaitl:

1) Is 23 years old
2) Plays center
3) Put up 50 goals last season
4) Is Cost controlled for the remainder of Kane, Toews, and Keith's contracts.

Those factors alone would make me think long and hard about trading Debrincat and Strome.

But the things Draisaitl has going for him, can be almost said about the other two combined also though. That's why I don't see the logic. Drai had 50 goals but Debrincat had 40 and Strome is poised to break out too. Like I understand Edm strinking while the iron is hot in this trade but I don't for Chicago. Even if Debrincat and Strome are not as good as Drai, combined they're worth more and will produce more than he will. That's not even including Perlini who I think can still find his game.
