I think if Gardnier was willing to sign a deal like that, it'd be done already. If anything I think he'll sign a one year deal worth 5+ and come back next year looking for a long term deal.

Honestly as a Sens fan I don't think it would take that much to move JJ. I would be happy if they got that 2021 second or Pitt 2021 first for one of Ottawas seconds

Fair based on what?

The fact that he's unsigned almost to mid August.
The fact that he's making the same amount of money as his previous contract?
How is that unrealistic tears of joy

Ottawa ownership likely nixes this deal but otherwise a rebuilding team would probably take those assets along with Johnson. I've got a bigger issue with LA giving up assets to acquire Gudbranson...

I'm also not sure. Marleau had 1 year left JJ has 4, that's the only kicker. And Melynk hates spending money

I still think a one year "show me" deal makes the most sense, but maybe you're right and the market just isnt there for him. IMO he's holding out for a long term deal for north of 5 and maybe 4 years. ONe thing for sure is, if he does sign a 1 year deal for around 5 mill, some team will get a pretty damn good dman looking to prove himself

I've seen some people say he's not looking for a 1yr deal and some are, some say long term some don't. Realistically none of us know more than the other tears of joy

No, it isn't.

Marleau had a full NMC. Toronto was in far worse shape than the Pens cap wise. Marleau was only going to waive his NMC if the team that he was going to bought him out. The 1st was payment or that buy out and for 100% bailing Toronto out of a VERY tough spot. The Penguin have options, Johnson is not going to be bought out, etc, etc, etc. Other than being a trade, the situations are not similar at all.
