It wouldn't surprise me at all to see Marincin and Lijegren or Schmaltz on the 3rd pair with Ceci either traded or sitting and Dermott on the top pair when he's back. But I would be fine with Dermott and Liljegren on the 3rd pair.

I just wanna give Ceci a shot. He has skill but played on a awful team with no d partner. Obviously if it doesn’t work out we gotta do something

just as an outsider they’re better off with ceci there bc Liljegren took a step backwards last season, he’s nowhere close to ready

I don't think he's going to be the best suited to play with Rielly. Dermott is far better.

Liljegren in fact did not take a step back, he didn't take a step forward offensively but he took many steps forward defensively and was the Marlies best defensive defenceman in the playoffs. At his age that is quite the accomplishment.

The guys a leafs troll. Liljegren came back after injury and looked like he improved enormously defensively compared to before and to me that’s a big step forward

He like most, thought Liljegren was going to be a Karlsson type, which was an unfair comparison. He's an elite level skater and puck carrier but I am not sure he has the passing ability to be an elite offensive guy. I see him being a great complementary guy for an elite LHD. He'll be very responsible defensively and extremely good skater who I feel will compliment Rielly very well.

I don’t get to watch him I just read about him but that seems accurate. He doesn’t make the huge offensive risks anymore and plays a more solid game which anybody would want on their team

Well, I'm not an outsider and I don't think Liljegren is NHL ready in October, Agree with you the Leaf have to give Ceci a shot. I don't understand the distrain so many have for Ceci. Let's see how he does with a better partner and teammates. Unfortunately Dermot is hurt, and there always the possibility the one or two guys are going to be injured at the same time. IMO Marincin will be OK with regular minutes.

Heres the thing with Liljergen and Sandin.
If they are on big club for this coming season, it's possible the bonuses for 2020-2021 become a cap/salary factor.

For that reason alone, the only way I see either of these guys on the roster this season is injuries.

I think it's much more likely our 3rd pair consists of 2 of the following:

Harpur
Holl
Marcinin
Schmaltz

Until Dermott is back of course, but remember he will be missing trading camp.
He will be step behind, do not think he will good right away at least or perhaps not even at all this season.

I was thinking Liljegren would be called up later in the season probably after Christmas depending on how he does and the leafs 3rd pair

Me too, but I heard on the sports radio that the danger becomes the bonuses.
Our cap problems are not gone.

I am betting if both or either get called up, it wont be for long to avoid bonuses.

Unless they lightning in bottle good, which I dont see happening.

I would only be calling up either of these guys if injuries are a factor. On one of the radio stastions this week in Toronto it was brought up that if either Liljegren or Sandin start the season with the big club, then some point in the season hit rookie bonuses that then becomes a factor into next season's salary cap.

This is probably why it's just best to leave both guys with the Marlies.

I’m predicting 80% of the time they’ll be in the minors

The bonus was Liljegern is a max 400,000 this season, so it's not like it's big cap hit this year or next if he helps the Leafs. Sandin has no bonuses. Just saying the Leafs wouldn't hold them back and keep Marleis because of bonuses... I read that Liljegren would have to protected in the expansion if he played 42 games or more with the Leafs this season. So that report is accurate, that;'s a better reason to "Marlie him" if necessary.

Just looking ahead to 2020/21, Leafs really need Sandin and Liljegren to be NHL good. Dermot and Reilly are the only other two Leafs. Three spots to fill.

It's a little more complicated than that. Also has to do with "pro" years. Now Liljegren first year as Marlie doesn't count because he was of junior age.
So, last year, this yer and next year would give three pro years. But if he played only 1.5 years in in the NHL less a game....meaning 1.4999 years as Leaf, half a season this year and a full season next year ...he doesn't have to be protected. (as I understand it).

You have been on this site for just a couple of months.... Four years later and 26,000 posts, hopefully I've learned a few things.
You've had quite a running start in your early debut. I'm kinda nutty but always enjoy good honest conversation ...or any topic. Nice to have you onboard
