Take out Suzuki and maybe, that's a big offer for an RFA that won't sign.

As a Leafs fan, I would do it. That’s the type of trade Toronto needs for Marner: an NHL ready and proven forward, a prospect, and a pick. That trade fits. But since the NHL is a league with a cap, Marner’s ask cripples a lot of trade destinations. Apparently teams are quickly discovering that after talking to his agent.

Bergevin has had some suspect trades - trading away Subban and Patches. It's not unrealistic I don't think.

I might agree with that. If I was Dubas, I would have bought low on both Duclair and Strome when they were underperforming

The NHL has it currently structured as 4 1st round picks for a Marner offer. This Habs-Leafs trade is the equivalent of 3 first rounders for Marner, a discounted rate when looking at it on paper

I think it's aligned with where it should be. Domi has now proven himself, Suzuki has never played a game and another question mark for a 1st rounder.

For a team to offer Marner, it's 4 1st rounders as compensation. This trades equals 3 1st rounders, so at a discount when viewing it wholistically

VERY bad trade for MTL, Domi going to cost around 8m in his next contract, that 3-4m less for only 20 points less than marner and MTL keeps their 1st and Suzuki who can be a 60-80 point Center.

no team is going to offer 3 first yet alone 4 first for marner, Wingers are not worth as much as Center or Dman.

I can see why you'd think the Subban trade was suspect, but in what universe was the Pacioretty trade suspect ?

Patches scored 30g 4 straight seasons and was the captain. Considering they gave 2 2nd round picks for away for Andrew Shaw, they received Suzuki and a 2nd rounder in return for their all-star, and yes - Tatar had a flash-in-the-pan season too
