Description
Just spit balling...

Two of Sikura, Kublik, Perlini, and Nylander will take the duties up front. That battle should shake out this season and will make for one of the more interesting things Hawks fans should watch this season. 2 will stay with the team and 2 will go is my guess. If 3 or 4 all work, then it makes it easier in the offseason, but let's assume 2 for this exercise.

If Beaudin is also ready, strong possibility, then we will see Gus moved. I know a lot of you guys want Gus moved and a lot of writers are talking about it, but if the Hawks make the playoffs, they will not move him (also supported by the Hawks podcast with Boyle). I don't think Gus puts up 60 points this year, I see around 40 to 45 points but I think that is in exchange for improving his defensive skills. The best combo last year was Keith and Gus and I think that continues this year. Also Kane is a big fan of Gus is the rumor and if Kane makes a push to re-sign him then the Hawks will definitely try to do just that; they have great chemistry.

The key here is each Defense line has a puck moving and stay at home guy paired together. This is the recipe that supports the new NHL that is faster and more offense then 5+ years ago.

Obviously there are a lot of variables here. Such as Smith could be traded over Carpenter, or how Kubalik plays, or Caggs. Caggs doesn't deserve much of a raise based on stats and I see him anchoring a bottom 6 role this season so don't see him stats improving. Kubalik is a wild card...if he breaks out he will get a bridge at a higher cost for sure.

On the positive side, I'm betting Kurashev is a breakout player and steps in next year. Dach should see fulltime duties as well.

Last topic is Perlini; I think he gets signed this offseason but assuming he is moved in one of the packages below.

This is one of the best and most realistic teams I've seen on here. I'm curious how the contract situations will work out. I have a feeling that Strome probably wants more than $5.5M and Gus might be able to get more than $4.25M on the open market. That would be my biggest question. Also, the lines might be slightly different. I don't think Murphy played nearly as well on the left as he does the right. Having Him and Gus together would be nice. Also, playing one of the rookies next to Keith could help their development too.

I just have a hard time thinking Seabrook won't be an everyday player. So if they keep Gus and Boq and Mitchell are ready, that means De Haan and Keith also automatically are playing, making Murphy odd man out. He's a easy contract to trade at $3.85M. Not to mention if Beaudin is ready, that's a $3M savings for swapping Murph with Beaudin.

I agree with what you're saying on the lines, and thank you for the compliment.

Strome has a partial breakout season; 3/4ths a season. I don't think given that he gets more then a bridge agreement depending of course on his play this season. Right now a $5M to $6M contract is where he is. If he plays even better this season that number could grow but I don't see the raw talent there that people are seeing. He has room to improve, but unless his two way skating, stamina, and speed improve I think a $5m to $6m bridge is where he will be at.

Gus is a wild card. If he puts up another 60 point season he will get more. I think he will regress slightly offensively and stabalize defensively. Maybe he gets $4.5M and in the open market $5M but guessing he will want to stay in Chicago and takes a slight discount to do so.

Well I think Maatta is the first guy out. If Beaudin or Krys are ready, then there's a good chance they get rid of Murphy or Gus. What we do know is the Hawks need 2 puck moving D guys paired up with more a stay at home physical player and maybe even 3 puck moving D guys. Keith is no longer that kind of player and I don't buy the debate that if Boqvist is ready then Gus is gone....both Gus and Boqvist would solidify your puck moving D guys. Mitchell is a tweener, not exactly puck moving but not exactly a stay at home player. Beaudin is definitely a puck moving guy. Maatta, Seabs, Keith, De Haan and Murphy are not.

Maatta's buyout is also VERY reasonable. So that's a option too even if it isnt preferred or ideal.
