Rebuild Outline

Created by: OldNYIfan
Team: 2019-20 Los Angeles Kings
Initial Creation Date: Aug. 11, 2019
Published: Aug. 11, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
The 23 players shown on my active roster is what I would like to see the squad reduced to by the start of the season, by moving the three players shown on the IR (all of whom have seen stellar service with the Kings) for draft picks and/or futures. Players in the system I expect to make the team in 2020-2021 are shown as scratches. And there are three super defense prospects (Bjornfot, Clague and Durzi) not on this roster who should make the team in the future.

I'm keeping Kovalchuk for sentimental reasons -- I think he deserves a better chance than he got with Weird Willie. I'm not an advocate of trading Lewis or Clifford because (a) they're character players, and (b) their contracts expire this year.

If Turcotte doesn't make the team next season something went seriously wrong.

I agree with keeping Clifford. They should sign him to an extension ASAP. Not so much with Lewis. I like him and he's a good 3rd/4th line option, but the Kings have better prospects coming up through the pipeline. They should trade him at the deadline to a contender looking to add depth.

I don't think LaDue will be on the team at the end of training camp next month. Walker and Roy will take 2nd and 3rd pairing RD behind Doughty. MacDermid will likely get the 7th defenseman spot. Clague will get a call up if there's an injury or once Martinez is traded. Forbort should probably be dealt at the deadline as well.

Aside from that I mostly agree.

I like boys to get as much of a college education as they can while they are young, so I'm hoping Turcotte plays two years at BU. But I think after this year in Ontario or wherever, Kaliyev makes the team in 2020-2021. They really need a pure goal scorer.

I think it will be the other way. Turcotte will make the team next season (he'll probably sign his ELC and get in a few games in April after UW is eliminated from the NCAA tournament) and Kaliyev will need 2 more years in junior (and possibly one more in the AHL).

That's right -- it's Zegras who's going to Boston U and Turcotte to my old alma mater. You'd think I would have more interest . . .

Cole Caufield is also supposed to be going to UW in the Fall. However, it is suspected that he might sign his ELC and attend training camp this fall, which would make him ineligible. If Caufield does forego the NHL this year and spends a year in the NCAA, then it's unlikely that we'll see Turcotte at all, as UW will likely be going all the way to the Frozen Four and still be playing when the NHL regular season ends. However, it's more likely that he does not, in which case UW isn't likely to make it all the way.

I hope that they're both smart and spend at least two years in Madison. I'm not a fan of young players who can be part of a major NCAA program leaving school early, and two years is bad enough.

I realize this is old, but I have just declared myself as the Sean Avery of Capfriendly. There will be no more rude or immature comments on this website.
