Yeah I see we have a 24 man roster, but even if you take out Desmith and don't sign Schultz you're still over (and now the defence is horrendous)

Maybe they'll buyout Tanev already?.. ?

I don’t believe they have any intention of re-signing Galchenyuk, and I’m skeptical Jack Johnson will be in the roster then. But, yes, the Pens aren’t a playoff team with this defense.

If he works out well I imagine they will make things happen to keep him....Just makes me hate that Tanev contract even more.
JJ has got to go, I dont see schultz staying either

Both Schultz and Galchenyuk are gone next year. They already know that. It's not even worth debating.
They are gonna let Schultz go so they can improve the blue line. He's a good power play guy but he's not the greatest all around defender.
Galchenyuk will be let go as well as they look to get younger and play their youth.
My guess either could be traded by mid year if they aren't in the hunt.

Younger? So you let Gally go? Dudes 25 tears of joy
Schultz is a good all around defender, the 3rd best undoubtedly on PIT rn.. they wouldn't be smart letting him walk lol.

The bigger issue I feel is Murray......He's gonna want $8-$10mil/season (especially if he has a rebound year). That's going to handcuff the Pens hard next off-season. And with no other goalies in the pipeline that are ready to be the next starter.....the Pens have no options. But I think Gally stays, Schultz gets traded by the deadline unless the Pens are in a top 3 of the conference position (which I doubt). JJ gets moved before this season starts I hope. Rust, Hornqvist, and Bjugs are all on the move this season or next off-season unless all have career years (doubtful). GMJR really made this team take a HUGH step backwards over the last couple of seasons.

If we let Galchenyuk walk and POJ doesnt't develop into even an NHL D. That Kessel trade will be the worst in Penguins history.

We need to move JJ, Gudbranson and Hornqvist. If we can somehow move all 3, we can retain Galchenyuk and Schultz

Yeah but every pens fan I've talked to (whether it's on here Twitter Reddit discord etc) all want to let Schultz go and play POJ/Addison... But they don't want to tank, but they'll have a defense that looks like this
Dumo-Letang
MP-POJ
Ruhwedel/Riikola-Trotman/Addison... But we can still win a cup in the Crosby+Malkin era with that defense...

Lol seriously.

This team needs more two-way guys. You realistically need 1 OFD (Letang) and guys who can defend and break the puck out (Dumo,Petterson, to an extent Schultz but he's more offensive than defensive)
The reasoning behind this 1 OFD: You're 2nd PP unit doesn't need that great of a QB when you have Malkin/Sid/Letang on PP1 because odds are PP2 doesn't see the ice/ and or they have 30 seconds left on the PP... lol

Yes, but most fans wear rose-colored glasses about their team, particularly the readiness of their prospects and the skill of their mediocre players. Doubtful any team with all or even two of Riikola, Ruhwedel, or Trotman as regulars can win a Cup. Ideally, those guys are your 7-9, at best. POJ hasn’t played a pro shift and these people have him in as a 4 on a contender, lol. Addison will be back in juniors next year and is likely at least two years away from the NHL. The Pens D is a mess of GMJR’s mismanagement and I wish him luck in cleaning up that garbage. But they most certainly are not a Cup contending D.
