Team Explanation
Slavo is a top 10 D man without a shadow of a doubt right now, a package for him needs to include something that
A) Carolina need. A goalie is their only immediate need

I like slavin, but you're off your Gourd. I wouldn't do Slavin for Debrincat straight up.

This is fans on here in a nutshell.

1) The initial trade offer that was posted by a Chicago fan was terribly one sided for the Hawks
2) Carolina fan responds with a proposal that is even more insane than the original
3) Now both fans will yell at each other about it not being fair one way or another

My take?

Slavin is absolutely a #1 defenceman and a great one at that. He's the best defenceman in Carolina by a wide margin, is he worth this package though? No of course not, he's great but he isn't a #1 Elite Norris candidate at this time, and he may never be more than a great #1 defenceman and a top 20 player on the back end, which is all fine! Thats a terrific thing to be, Debrincat scored 40 goals last year and is still in his ELC, he's looking like he'll be a top end scoring winger in the near future.

If there is any trade here it would be a 1 for 1 and that would be a fair deal. Not sure either team would make the move since they both are happy with how they are moving forward, Hawks have some high end defenceman coming up and Carolina has Svech who could be every bit as good as Debrincat.

So both sides, settle down and realize what reality is.

That's the best thing on CapFriendly. Or maybe the worst.

People trying to make " rEaLiStIc " trades but somehow don't remember that the other team will not trade this player OR their team will not give up this much

You gotta remember 1) Slavin has been underrated for years, and ironically broke out during one one of his worst years in the NHL, 2) He's the best DFD in the league, that's not close, the dude was eligible for a save percentage this year, he also managed to throw up 30+ points and scored 11 more in the playoffs, he's one of the best d men in the league and he gets hands down overrated, yes this is a hell of an overpay, but to pull Slavin out of Carolina, it has to be

Also, CAR would have nobody on LD side. Pesce plays there by default; Bean will be top4, Beaudin top6 in this case but they need a top pairing guy and he'll stay

Pesce can play either side, Fleury could slot into the top 4, Bean 3rd pair

Fleury gets called a bust bc he's been stuck behind a log jam in Carolina, he could do a job in the top 4, I've watched every single game he's played in his NHL career... I think he'd be okay, not ideal, but okay

All of that is fan talk. He's a great player but he's still not in the discussion as the best of the best. He's not criminally underrated either. For two seasons he's been seen as a undisputed #1 defenceman and a terrific 2 way player. Cane fans have a tendancy to call all of their defenceman top 20 players and call them underrated. They are a great bunch of players but only Slavin is a future Norris contender, possibly.

Carolina won't have much appetite to move him, and if they did, it would be for a lot less than you think it'll be. He'll bring back a top line player for sure but that's it.

He didn't exactly light it up as a rookie, but this isn't surprising. While yes there are a number of fans on each team that are homers and overvalue their players compared to all others, its becoming apparent that all Cane fans do this.

Svech will be better than Debrincat, just like Pesce is the best defenceman on almost every team in the league. Faulk is top pair on all but a handful of teams and Aho is hands down a generational talent who will be better than Crosby.

Svech I think will be a very good top 6 or top line forward. He didn't light it up in his rookie season and because of that I am not sure he's going to be a huge game breaker, he'll be good but there are a lot of guys who score 20 goals in their rookie season that don't end up mega stars. Svech has a lot to prove.

Slavin as a top10 D seems very subjective. Pietrangelo, Josi, Parayko, Seth Jones, I hear this Hedman guy is pretty good, Trouba, Giordano did win the Norris this year, Letang, OEL, Carlson, Karlsson (though he might be starting to decline), Hamilton is oft traded but pretty good too...so what I'm saying is while Slavin a very good youngish D at a fairly reasonable 5.3M, top 10 is a stretch even with excluding guys like Burns and Byfuglien.
Honestly, take a breath, fill out a top 20 for yourself, and then think about how many people would agree. If Slavin is in your top 10 the answer is not many.
