Proposed by a Calgary fan, think PIT needs to add but what?
PIT
  1. Martinez, Alec ($2,000,000 retained)
  2. 2020 5th round pick (LAK)
LAK
  1. Johnson, Jack
  2. Hållander, Filip
  3. 2021 2nd round pick (PIT)
  4. 2020 4th round pick (PIT)
Additional Details:
LA is the only team reported intrested in Johnson, think more would need to be added for LA to accept this trade.

PIT could also target Forbort instead or just trade Johnson and try to sign someone like Adam Mcquaid from FA

CGY doesn't have the cap space to even consider it.

This would need CGY to trade Frolik (Cap space to sign Tkachuk)

Do you think a 3-way deal could be possible with CGY sending Frolik to EDM and getting JP back, or should PIT take on Froliks contract and then try to get JP by themselves?

Yeah CGY are in cap trouble, Frolik for JP does make sense but I'm not sure EDM and CGY would make a trade such bitter rivals.

GMJR has reportedly already turned down JP that trade was reportedly Rust for JP in a 1-1

I'd have thought even if CGY can sort the cap issues this trade is difficult for PIT as they have so many players with 1 year left on the contracts. Also what happens with the expansion draft?

There's this growing thought in me that our three teams might be in a position to all get our cap situations straightened out (less so for LAK but there's other things that need to happen there, I would imagine).

Someone on here created a 3-way trade with our teams and both Rust and Toffoli ended up on CGY; Kings got Janko+ and Pens got Brodie+

Pens fans? I got the sense in the past that Rust is a bit of a fan favourite, think things might work there?

LAK Fans? Thoughts on Toffoli?

I don't mind the basis for the LA trade, but it needs some work.

By himself, Martinez is worth a 2nd and a B-/C+ prospect. If you want the Kings to retain half his salary for the next two years, then the prospect needs to be upgraded to B+. I think Hallander and a 2nd is a fair trade for Martinez with 50% retention, although I think the Kings would be hesitant to defer the pick to 2021.

So that leaves a slightly upgraded pick (early 5th to a late 4th) for the Kings to take on 4 more years of unmitigated Jack Johnson. That's not going to work. I had an argument the other day about whether the Pens would have to give up a 1st round pick in order to dump JJ's contract. I said yes, he said no. The other downside was that there was no one to take over at 3LD if Johnson left. I think a Martinez for Johnson+ solves that problem.

My counter would be the following:
Martinez (50% retention)
2020 3rd round pick
for
2020 1st round pick
2021 2nd round pick
Johnson
Hallander
