After the skinner 8x9, I would be a little Leary of handing out another so quick especially, when your hoping dahlin will except 8x something in 2 years, may need to have the rest of the team 5 million or less with skinner, eichel, dahlin, making the money. Especially with your budget tending, if every find someone you want to keep longterm, need a little budget

Horrible trade for Buffalo... Laine isn't worth it.

I do think there are some natural links to tie the two teams to a trade. WPG needs another RHD and cap. BUF has defense to spare and needs a forward. It's all the other stuff that gets in the way. What makes a Laine/Risto trade fair. BUF would have to add a lot even despite the "sub par" year for Laine. Lots of hair on that trade. How to value a #2 OA with a sub par year vs. a VERY hard to understand (value wise) Risto with a pretty reasonable contract, but also asking to be traded away.

Really like the trade but not the Laine signing, the way he played last year hes probably going to get a bridge deal. But I like the pieces getting exchanged, makes a lot of sense. Risto wants out and this will likely be the value of the return.

I wish everyone would actually research what Ristolainen said:
"I haven't been able to help the team win," he told MTV Sports, translated through Google Translate.
"Recent seasons have been tough and I haven't been able to enjoy hockey."
That does not sound like "I lost my love of the game" just that he is not happy that he has not been able to get the Sabres into the playoffs.
Head lines often exaggerate the comments and ream more into a statement.
I believe this happened here. That is not to say he will not be traded just he did not request a trade in the interview.

Yeah but look what guys like Jack and Dahlin say: things like I want to bring Buffalo a championship, im here for the long haul, expressing their excitement for the future etc etc....Sounds to me and I think everyone else like those comments from Risto just further solidified what everyone knows is true —that he needs a change of scenery.

If hes dwelling on the past and how terrible we have been that is just not a good thing to have in the locker room....im ready to move on from all the negativity and losing and if hes still talking about it and not focusing on getting better and making this team a contender next season then send him away for picks for all i care

he is what he is — a decent one dimensional 2nd pair RHD

hes overly aggressive often times to a fault
he needs a good stay at home d partner(not scandella)
he needs to play a lot less mins
he needs to not play against other teams top line

everyone on here is all of a sudden turning the guy into Karl alzner....ive seen some really awful trades on here that ppl honestly think are fair where the sabres get totally shafted

im not a big risto fan and would be more than happy if we dealt him but Boterill isnt going to trade a 40 point dman for scraps

55 has his flaws no doubt but he is definitely not a camp dump

my best guess is Botterill cant find a trade partner right now willing to give up the value he wants in return so hes gunna hold on to him and hope his stock goes up playing less mins with Miller/Montour and Jokiharju added to the mix.

All it takes is for a contending team to lose a top 4 dman to injury and all of a sudden you’re getting a lot better offers. Its not a bad strategy.

Theres my Risto rant.

I agree. Considering how all of the trades Betterall has made came out of the blue without any pre-chatter, for all we know he has had several offers (as Pierre Lebrun has reported) but is waiting for the best one. IMO, as I have said before, and you have alluded to in your rant, we will all be surprised at the return.
Please I am not insinuating that this will be the trade, but it could be Bonino, Alexander Campbell and a first. NSH could be looking for a RHD to fill the spot vacated by Subban and they trade their fourth center (who could be our second if Mittelstadt is not ready).
Or it could be Ristolainen, a prospect (or a current NHL player) and a first (or a prospect) for Arvidsson, this BTW would be sweet.
Buffalo does not need to make a trade to be under the cap. At the start of the season Jokiharju could start in Rochester, Bogosian on IR and Neslon in press box, with Miller, Montour and Ristolainen sharing RHD time.
Unless it is a great deal, I do not want him moved.
Let me add, Pierre Lebrun seems to value Ristolainen rather high, because when there were talks with Tampa, he felt Buffalo should be getting Sergachev as part of the package.
I think we are in agreement, that while he is not Karlsson (yet), he is also not Alzner (and will not be for at least 10 years).
Edit: let me add, if I was Ristolainen and played 24 minutes a night then had to read how many fans really disliked me, I may want to be traded as well.
