Why do Oiler fans always trade Kassian to the Leafs?

Why no Benson on the team?

Adding Frolik doesn't solve the issues, but it makes adding Benson less of a necessity. Forcing Benson to have another strong year in Bakersfield and remain in a winning environment probably does his development more good than being forced into a top-6 role that he may not be ready for. I also have concerns regarding bonus overages that could carry on into next year: because I have no goddamn clue as to what next year could look like cap-wise, I'm very leery to saddle a cap-stressed team with another chunk of dead cap.

Cause Babcock has a need for guys willing to throw the body, and he's a middle-ground candidate that Dubas wouldn't hate to have as much. Two seasons in a row now the Leafs have been punked by the Bruins in the playoffs, and there aren't many bruiser type players that are half as useful as Kassian in the league.

To be fair, it could be to any team sans retention for a lesser pick, but to me the Leafs make more sense just from a speed/skillset point of view.

As usual, I like your ideas, Beter. Excellent work. But judging by the 22-man roster, the presence of Tomas Jurco at #1 RW and the amount of cap space you have left, did you forget to re-sign Puljujarvi?

Puljujarvi and his agent are adamant about never playing another second in Edmonton: just assuming that remains the status quo and he stays in Europe the entire season until a trade Holland likes comes along.

Aha! I hadn't heard that.

Okay, another idle thought -- what's your interest in homeboy Johnny Boychuk? Assume Lamoriello wants to make Holland an offer he can't refuse.

Too expensive and doesn't have much for legs left. I'd be interested based on how much Old Man Lou was willing to pay, but I'm certain that ask starts with Beavillier and dead cap going back on shorter term.

One of the Islander guys suggested that Lou would pay big bucks (trans: a first and a second[!!]) to get rid of him. I know that's nuts, but what if the ask was a second and a prospect like that Russian (Maksimov?sp?)?

Would Beavillier and the 2020 1st get it done for Gagner, Manning, and Maksimov? I would MAYBE add a midround pick in 2022. Banking on compliance buyouts if there's another lockout.

Nah the Oilers won't deal out a prospect for a dead player unless you make it REALLY worth their while. Like Russell and Gagner for Boychuk and a 1st/Beauvillier. You get more of a cap hit on much less term, which is easier to buyout, while giving up part of your future to acquire pieces elsewhere to win now.

Moving Russell in a deal like that is counter-intuitive for the Islanders: the advantage with Gagner/Manning is they expire immediately after while offering some savings today, Russell only offers some savings. The Oilers could (read: should) be asking on players like this in order to bring in a lot of higher picks this year.
