Massive Wild Trade

Created by: cbreezy14
Team: 2019-20 Vancouver Canucks
Initial Creation Date: Aug. 13, 2019
Published: Aug. 13, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Obviously this will never happen (Wild fans love Kaprizov) but want to see how the value looks.

Why the wild do it: Constantly I hear the Wild want Right shot forwards On ACGM. The prize of the deal is Boeser a 22 year old Right Shot Minnesota kid who will score 40 in the NHL consistently. Lockwood is a rightshot forward prospect who is the captain of Michigan this season. Gaudette is a Rightshot forward who won the Hobey Baker 2 years ago and would be a perfect 3C for the Wild. Virtanen is a right shot power forward who has gotten better each year. Will end up being a 20 goal guy when he reaches his peak. Juolevi is a former 5th overall pick and should be a top 4 Defenceman in a few years (replaces
Why Vancouver does it: Helps them be cap compliant this year. Zucker replaces some of Boesers production immediately as they try to make the playoffs. Boldy is a high end prospect and will be a top 6 forward in a couple years.
Kaprizov is a wildcard. He led the KHL in goals last season and should be coming to the NHL potentially in a year when his KHL deal is up. Adding a Russian of his stature should help convince Tryamkin to return to Vancouver and also help Podkolzin when he transitions to North America.

How I see the deal breakdown...

Boeser & Lockwood = Zucker & Boldy
Juolevi, Virtanen & Gaudette = Kaprizov

Eh... I think Kaprizov has potential to be either similar to or better than Boeser, so we're essentially trading Zucker and Boldy for a bunch of "meh" prospects. I know it's for fun but I wouldn't do it if I were GM

That’s fair thanks for the feedback! I am very intrigued to see when and how Kaprizov does when he comes over. I know you guys have an older core and should be in win now mode.. so getting 3 guys who are in the NHL and two prospects helps aid some of the older guy as they chase the playoffs. Plus you get the hometown kid haha

You're welcome! As am I, I watched quite a few KHL games to see Kaprizov and he looks like a superstar in the making. We will see in a couple years, I guess. Honestly we don't really have that old of a core anymore. Our old skaters are Parise, Staal, Koivu, Zuccarello, Spurgeon, and Suter, the rest of our players are still pretty young. We already have too many NHL players so we can't really afford to add any more. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely would love to have Boeser, but realistically the price it would cost us to get him is likely far too much.

That's the issue. The Wild have quantity, they need quality. 99% of the trades on here involve sending NHL depth to the Wild when they don't need it. Maybe a deal around Zucker and Boldy for Boeser might make sense from the Wild's perspective because Boeser offers a quality upgrade now from Zucker while sending the Canucks a blue chip prospect in Boldy and a productive forward in Zucker who will still be good in a few years when the Canucks are ready to compete. Guessing Canucks fans wouldn't like that deal though and understandably because you're gambling on Boldy panning out.

Makes sense. I think Boeser is a stud and had real good chemistry with Petey. But I think a Zucker Boldy return would be a good starting point for Boeser and could help both teams. Especially if Boeser wanted to play closer to home while his father is going through some health problems.

@TanSor I’m hoping you have a good feel for Wild prospects. What can you tell me about Simon Johansson? Haven’t seen any highlights or many scouting reports in him, but seems to be out producing Filip Johansson their first round pick from the same draft. Good size offensive RHD seems like a real nice pick in the 5th round. Round 5 seems to be a good round for the wild!

He was one of my favorite picks the year he was drafted. You pretty much hit the nail on the head. I haven't been able to watch him since Allsvenskan games are tough to find, but from what I've read he is good offensively and can carry the puck well. Could be a 2nd pairing player someday, but I'd say he's at least 2-3 years away from cracking an NHL roster. This year will be a big one for him as he'splaying in the SHL.
