Pettersson is really good but he isn’t worth near that return and then you want the Devils to take a cap dump as well??

None of those guys have played in the NHL. Pettersson is already a franchise player. I think the price is low.

Ty Smith just won CHL defenseman of the year. Jack Hughes' ceiling is higher than Elias Pettersson's. Ray Shero hangs up, and then calls back to make sure he heard correctly.

Jack Hughes could be unreal even more so than Pettersson, maybe Hughes plus 1st but Ty Smith is too much, that kid is just as unreal as these two

So did Derrick Poulliot, Anthony DeAngelo, and Ryan Sproul recently. CHL defenseman of the year doesn't mean anything.

It's laughable to state the Hughe's ceiling > Pettersson. Don't even know if the guy will play center in the NHL.

Shero is smarter than you give him credit for.

The critical words are "could be". Pettersson already is a franchise player.

Could be for these players is like a 80%, as opposed to other rookies. I understand you completely but New Jersey would be better off sticking to these two I think

Yeah he started really slow last year. But 26 goals in 69 games isn't bad

I can’t blame him tho, injuries are bigger than most people think, to still close to stay PPG is great hopefully he can stay good

QHughes = Smith? that's funny. I don't even think Ty Smith's mom believes that

Yes, promise is difficult to give up.

However, I think the general comments have significantly underestimated Pettersson.

Yes because young, proven franchise centres on their entry level contracts are readily available.

They already have potential one in Hughes.

Honestly with your logic, Milan f*cking Lucic is worth a 1st overall pick because of the offchance that the pick turns out to be a failure...

Potential being the operative word.

Don’t understand your second comment. To liken Pettersson to Lucic is a serious misjudgment of talent and youth

Couldn’t agree more. People put far to much value on prospects on this site. Hughes could be great... or he could be a bust, Same as smith. Yes they are great prospects and you would have to overpay to pry them free. As of right now if I were to put a player on my team it would be Pettersson over Hughes hands down,

The point is that if you crossover the potential from all prospects then every single established NHL player is worth more than a prospect with no NHL experience. Now Pettersson is a great player, but Hughes' potential is even higher than that. Ofc no one knows what he will bring to the table in the future, but with your logic everyone that has done something in the NHL is above the asset that haven't done anything yet.

If that happens, every single player under contract is worth more than a draft pick, no matter how high pick it is.

I clearly understand what your saying here and elias petterson as clearly the edge on jack hugues. I’m not as high on jack higues than anybody i think he will have a rough time getting from ushl to nhl. The last players was phil housley and tom barasso is i’m not mistaking. But for the quint hugues and ty smith things for now no one as proven anything so for me at this stage their value is very similar. Both play very similar game both add great succes in their respective league but for now both might be bust or star or just good players well see this year
