    Uhhh, I think those numbers are closer than you think. I would agree the Staal number is a little low, but it's not 2008 anymore. You don't overpay for past performance, and especially older players.

    It would be interesting because he really didn't play that will with either Carolina or New York to deserve the money or term he probably wants. 1 being sheltered could help him in the long run. He could certainly get more now, but maybe 1 year later he could get even more???

    Just curious, with this rationale, what if Toews and Kane gave the Hawks a 2 year discount for $8.5-9M/? I truly believe Saad would have been more reasonable and signed for $2-2.5M less for 4+ years, keeping a great lineup that much more intact. T&K could have then signed for the bigger bucks IMO. I know that isn't a common thing for superstars to do yet it is a complete team sport within the hard cap realm. Honestly, I simply do not see the Hawks winning again as they are presently structured.
