Guessing Tampa can't fit Erne into their cap. Wings give up a 4th for a good bottom 6 player. Not sure if it's exactly what Detroit needs but good value for them.

Am I the only one that thinks this is foreshadowing a buyout of Helm or Abby withing the next 12 months? Or potentially a trade of another winger?

If Erne wasn’t agreeing to the Lightning’s offers, he would have filed for arbitration (he was eligible and opted against it). His salary was going to be around League minimum, so this move saves us nothing. I don’t get it at all.

Edit: My guess is that BriseBois is confident enough in our prospects that Erne wasn’t going to be on the team and he decided to move Erne for something rather than waive him for nothing. I don’t like the idea of trading away all of our big, physical players when we’ve seen how quickly being outsized by aggressive teams wear us down, but I guess that’s kind of defined us for a while now.

IMO DET shouldn't buyout either. Doubling their cap hit lengths (Obviously less money against the cap) doesn't make sense when Yzerman himself said Detroit is a few years away from contending. IF roster spots are needed Detroit should just waive them or trade them for low round picks and eat half their salary.

Not a bad deal for detroit. The 4th is like nothing, they get a depth piece at forward. They aren't really deep there and two of their forwards are 35 years old.

hmm, I guess Stevie Y really liked Erne. I imagine the Wings could definitely use him.

Turns out he was one of Stevie Ys guys. Like How Witowski was one of JBB's.

In and out of the lineup last year. Everytime it looked like he was gonna be the next guy in Gourde, Joeseph etc slide in ahead of him. Think it mean a crunch guy or two will get a look in.

Wings win here. Decent winger for a minimal cost.

I personally like the trade. We got plenty of rookies coming up for the 4th line. Barré-Boulet, Verhaeghe, Stephens, Volkov, they all are ready and deserving a chance. And a 4th rounder in next years draft is definitely not bad.

Definitely not a L in my books

With Tampa Cap Issue ( with the need of signing Point), everybody knew they had to trade Erne, so it lowers Erne's value. A 4th isnt toooooo bad tho.

Erne probably wanted more than 4th line role in the team. So I assume he's asking for too much money.

Erne is probably suited for either 3rd or 4th line role. IMO should've found a way to stay with Tampa (better for him) but team is shedding salary for the big guys. Plus they've given money for depth D signings and Shattinkirk... so guys like Erne have to be squeezed out.
Tampa knew they were most likely taking the L when trading a young grinder, regardless of the return. 4th rounder isn't the worst thing.

I think both teams got what they wanted for the price they wanted. Mutual win -- the best kind of trade.

Anyone else think this will not be the last time Yzerman goes to his previous cupboard to fill a spot in his new one?

Good deal for Detroit. Did Yzerman get the Lightning in this cap situation to get Erne onto the Wings? lol

Oh my god, i'm shocked how one sided the vote is. scream Are you guys not watching TBL matches at all? unsure
I actually laughed, when i saw this trade on the main page. tears of joy
Yes, on paper the 4th round pick is nothing right...
But when you hit a guy like Johnny Gaudreau in the 4th round, you suddenly say:
"This pick was the steal of the draft."

I watched Erne over the years, and i didn't see him anything special. No skill, no speed, no grit, exactly nothing. I was actually happy everytime he was out of lineup. So i was sad in playoffs, where he played 3 matches. Due to injuries... Ofc he was like an invisible man on the ice, as usual...
Results: 3 games - 0 Points - no surprise

Yes, he was a promising prospect at young age(2nd round pick- good QMJHL career), but i just couldn't see him improving that much anymore at the NHL level to be useful part of our team.
I think Yzerman is still with us for the next 2 years with his soul.cool
I still wish the best for Erne in Detroit, i hope he proves me wrong and makes an impact on that Detroit team.

So, this is a 100% win for Tampa Bay Lightning
I was expecting a 6th or even a 7th rounder for him tops, or let him go for free...like including him as a bonus in the Domingue trade
BriseBois surprises me every week, how good he is, since he took over the GM job. (Except the Vasi contract, which was only acceptable in the long run).
1st rounder for JT Miller was insane value for us. Callahan trade = mindblowing.
Another upside for this trade: we have more money for the Point contract + next year more cap space for the RFA's... Yes, 1 mill is something, when we are in cap hell next year...

Erne was absolutely not a good fit for the Lightning, the opposite of Paquette.
Paquette provides everything what a 4th liner should be in the NHL. I just don't understand why Detroit would want Erne for this price...(answer:Yzerman liked him/drafted him i guess?)

Anyways, now we just need to give some chance in the NHL to the youngsters: Volkov,Verhaeghe,Barré-Boulet,Raddysh,Foote... or others...
Just not Conacher please(let him play in AHL)...

I have to admit, i was scared when we hired our new GM, after Yzerman left, even though i knew he worked with Yzerman. But it's different when you are the boss and responsible for everything, then just doing things from the background, like managing the AHL team.

From this day, i'm officially a BriseBois fan Heart Eyes , i will trust him whatever he does, just like i trusted Yzerman over the years. Not even the slightest worried for the Point contract anymore, like i was in the last 3 months...

lets just put aside the value of the player and the pick for a second.

if TBL could not afford him at $1.05M; why did the wings send a pick? they could have easily offer sheeted him
$0 - $1,395,053 =No Compensation
