Continuing the influx of youth on d

Created by: arafay

Description
I am assuming pionk has a good season next to JoMo and emerges as a top 4 d. However he is outplayed by niku to stay on the team. I also assume that Hallander has a decent season but emerges as a b prospect. So essentially, pionk for the first, hallander for Lowry.

The perreault trade is from the 2019 offseason to make room for a long term laine deal.

The final deal is a prospect 1 for 1. Both nhl ready and have similar upside (bottom 4 vs bottom six). It could be another prospect but it should be a somewhat large c

With 2 picks in very deep draft, the hope is that we draft a big, aggressive rd and a playmaking c (with large upside). Would consider trading down though if that is not available

Pionk + Lowry does not get you a 1st alone. Maybe Pionk + Lowry vs Hallander + 5th round pick

Not now. I am assuming that pionk emerges as a top 4 d this season playing next to JoMo. Read the description bud

Do you agree that Lowry=hallander. Don’t really know who hallander is so don’t know his value. But any b prospect really

Not exactly awful considering Trouba told the jets there was no other place where he would be willing to play long-term. However taking that into consideration, it was okay. Heinola is looking really good, and pionk also has some potential. You can teach defence but not offence and puck moving. The kid is great with the puck and does it right. He had 26 pts as a rookie. Let’s give him more than one overused season before saying he sucks.

With JoMo as his d partner, he won’t need to worry about the defensive side of the puck too much. He can focus on the other aspect. In NY he was tasked with being a top pairing guy for them in his first season which is too much. In WPG, he will not be asked to be a top pairing guy since we already have JoMo and buff who are both elite. He just needs to do what he does best, puck moving, which is something he jets severely lacked last season. Add that to the fact that pionk’s main offseason work will be adding strength and positioning, I think he will exceed expectations. He is already good offensively, but he might be half decent in our own end, which is more than what we could ask for from the kid

Apologies it didn't paste. I was agreeing with your comment.

I think Pionk could turn out to be a top 4 D for us as the Jets can properly develop players.

I also said how we were backed into a corner with trading Trouba. Usually the team who trades the better player to being with loses value in return, but when we know we cannot sign him and he only has limited teams he would be willing to sign with it puts us in a tough spot. That being said I think we made out alright with Pionk and Heinola.

It will be interesting to see but I think those two are going to be a big part of our future on D but I like the way both of them play thus far and believe with proper development they will be great players.

Heinola is incredible. I haven’t seen that much skill in a jets defencemen ever. Like JoMo and niku are great, but heinola is on a different level. He is known as heiskanen lite by scouts. If he can improve his skating, he could be elit

Pionk should benefit from a defensively responsible partner as he can focus on what he does best, while slowly learning the other side of the game

Yes I have heard that as well, not to mention as soon as we drafted him he instantly topped our board for prospects.

I know people may think that we have a huge hole on the defensive end but really its finally time for younger guys to step in and its not as bad as it may seem. Imagine what our D core will look like in 3 to 5 years, it could be very scary.

Just have to wait and see.

Between kovacevic (who could become a very good #2), samberg, heinola, niku, and most likely buff, we can boost pionk’s value and then trade him for futures. Not to mention that we have gawanke, Chisholm, vallatti, and green who all have top 4 upside.

In 2 years (after the expansion draft) I see the lineup looking like
JoMo-buff
Samberg-niku
Heinola-kovacevic

Depending on how much buff declines and how far kovacevic develops, kovacevic and buff could be switched

The real challenge will be keeping all these guys after their elc’s however, defencemen bridges are cheap
