The rich get richer. They can replace Erne pretty easily. It's nice to have an extra pick in another deep draft. 128 points...Decent prospect depth with two feet in...two first rounders next year. They're looking pretty good for a number of years going forward. They'll need to manage their cap which is easier said that done, but it'll get done.

Well we learned Yzerman liked Erne alot more than JBB .. I agree. . STILL doesnt explain Gourde .. ????? .. Shutterkirk pick up eliminates Green from Detroit who I also thought was 1 year veteran fit .. Tampa needs new blood to kick ass of role playing overpaid shrimps

I like the trade also but should have been a bit higher probably a third. Wish Erne the best of luck.

This is true, at that point in the draft 5 or 6 spots barely matters, and that should be about all it is.

Isn’t Green expensive? We’re barely affording Shattenkirk with the $1.3m of bonuses we have to pay.

Anyway, while I like giving roster spots to prospects, I would have preferred that Erne stay as a healthy scratch. Someone else from Syracuse now has to be a healthy scratch here and not get much playing time. Besides, if we need to face a physical opponent, maybe Erne is better than yet another more skilled but smaller player for that particular opponent. I’m sure Erne wanted to be somewhere that would let him play, which is why he wasn’t too desperate to sign here, but I would be a lot more comfortable if we had someone we knew could be a fourth-line physical grinder type if our prospects all fail or injuries start getting bad.

awesome face YES, BIG YES! applaud applaud applaud
Erne was talented, but he failed to fullfill his potential here... He stucked on the AHL level, it happens to a lot of players from the draft. Even 1st rounders have the same faith often... but he was only a 2nd rounder, so no big deal. Like Koekoekk was a huge bust from 1st round , it happens...
That's why every draft = new endless possiblities = every pick comes handy and you can hit the jackpot anytime, like we did with Kucherov or Point, or Calgary Flames did with their 4th round pick... probably you can guess who that player was...

So yeah, i agree, this trade is super good for us. Erne = Ghost on the ice most of the time.
Just like when JT Miller disappeared for a while, you wonder is he even playing this night? Result = trade both = perfect

I wish Erne could have grinded down players, if he was just 20% of Tom Wilson from the Capitals or Reaves from VGK , or even Josh Anderson from CBJ, i would have said just keep him at all costs.cry

And we got back respectable draft picks for both, sick! Oh yeah, just wait and watch Detroit's next year's 4th round pick = super close to our 3rd round pick tears of joy
And people voted in the trade poll: winner = Detroit LUL
Heart Eyes Heart Eyes Heart Eyes I'm officially a BriseBois fan from now on. Heart Eyes Heart Eyes Heart Eyes

Can't wait for his next trade!rock on

Yanni Gourde for next 3 seasons:
CLAUSE DETAILS: July 1, 2019 – June 30, 2022: Full 'No Trade' clause.

I don't think you need to mention this player until 2021/2022 in your posts, it's just a waste of time. He is only 27 years old, not 37 as well.
He is staying, the sooner you accept it, the better for you.
I know Gourde had a bad season (from the outside perspective: 80 games - 48 points, thats actually = amazing season for most NHL teams, our team is just too good i know), but until we see him next season, you can't write him off that easily.
Maybe he will have a 60 points year... He is a true warrior, he tries his best every shift. wink
Maybe he was injured or had personal problems...
Yes, he didn't played his best hockey in 2019/2020. Yet we got to 60 wins+, so ain't that bad huh?Huh?
Gourde at least has some skill level, when he arrives at the net and sometimes can get into fights, even when he loses vs BIG/HEAVY GUYS smile
He is not that bad as you paint him every time.
Yes, the 5 mill $ caphit is a little too much, but let's just compare him with Lucic. +4 years of age and Erne's level of points production. Cap hit = same as Gourde.
Calgary last year:look at their regular season points totals: they traded for Lucic... James Neal by far the better player...

You see, not all of contracts has to be steals, like McKinnon's contract in Colorado.
Yes i would be more happy, if he would make only 3.9 million $ @ 5 years, but this 1.3 million $ overpayment is not the end of the world...
And i just looked at his advanced stats compared to his linemates, it's actually good. So there is nothing wrong with him.
Defensively:advanced stats, same... pretty good...
He doesn't make the team's worse, when he is on the ice... unlike Girardi... oh ye, he is not coming back....
You can clearly see our GM knows what he is doing...

We can trade Gourde at age of 30, if he will be under 30-40 points player. Until then, let's hope he will help us to win the Cup. If not, we try again after 2022 without him...

Let's just be happy today that we got this good trade and:

I hate how easy Tampa is making GM'ing look. I feel like they are purposefully screwing up and signing guys like Girardi or overpaying guys they should probably be letting go like Gourde just to be like "See guys, we make mistakes too" awesome face

His 50 career points came in one season. BriseBois took a bet on his value going up. It’s looking like, while it’s not increasing, it’s hovering around where it was then. And in Gourde’s two professional seasons, he’s been the best forward not named Stamkos, Kucherov, or Point both times. He’s also very solid defensively. He may not be a fighter, but depth scoring is necessary. Johnson and Palat are the concerning pieces a lot more so, scoring less than Gourde despite often having better line mates. BriseBois definitely has a plan and I think he knows what he’s doing here. He would have moved Gourde if necessary for him to get us under the cap most effectively. Clearly he thinks he can with Gourde, and in that case, why should we give him up? It’s not like anyone can deny that he’s a very productive and tenacious two-way forward.
