Description
Lets all remember that the goal is a a stanley cup not a playoff apperance so when this team gets worse now it only worsens the chance of a playoff apperance but gets us closer to the promised land this lineup is 4 years in the future the trades are not

Our team currently is a bubble team if we don't change anything I honestly don't even think we will MAKE the playoffs Now is not the time the future is

MTL has pieces they have there NO1 goalie and one to replace him they have left wing and 3/4 centre-men during this time this would be my checklist that id want the habs to acquire

1 LD
We currently have mete and romanov who will be great dmen to build around but i think we need one more to play in the top spot and that left side would be scary

1c yes Ik kk is great and will likely be our no1 for years to come however a 1/2 combo like what toronto has or tampa or pitsburgh and washington that really solidifies the depth however this one is more of a luxury it isn't the most pressing need as poehing would make a 2c as well

Top6 RW For me Domi has earned his spot as the no1 LW for the Canadiens and I think drouin can grow in to a good No2 for me i want gallagher playing on the 3rd line when we contend bc his be a veteran playing with the kids and will help them develop and it helps run all 4 lines solidly Caufield is in the top 6 so i think we need another to truly solidify the top 6

Without petry tatar and byron as well as the upgrades of the panthers and sabres and the highly possible fallback to reality for some of our players i think we finish 7th to draft Cole Perfetti checking the final box

Btw i spent over 1 hour and a half on this please comment your opinions

Trades
1.
MTL
  1. Eriksson, Loui
  2. Podkolzin, Vasily [Reserve List]
Additional Details:
Vancouver dumps off erikksson

based on the marleau trade the price to dump eriksson is likely something around 3 first Vancouver also gets petry to really have a solid D

Hughes - Myers
Juolevi - Petry
Utanen - Woo

Also petry fits with in there timeline as his contract expires in 2 years when they need to pay petersson so yes it is going to be tough for vancouver to lose on of there top prospects but the gain a top 4 d man and shed an awful contract
VAN
  1. Petry, Jeff ($2,000,000 retained)
  2. 2021 3rd round pick (CHI)
Additional Details:
For Mtl they check of one of the boxes top 6 rw and get good value for petry and eriksson won't hurt mtl to bad as it is only for 2 years (after this one) plus after trading away petry we are only losing 2.5 mil in cap not bad if we're getting podkolzin
2.
MTL
  1. Backes, David
  2. Vaakanainen, Urho
Additional Details:
Boston gets rid of backes at the cost of Vaakanainen however Boston forward group becomes one of the scariest in the the nhl and they also get a yes never the less a lower tier prospect in juulsen but a player that HAS top 4 potential and the d core doesn't take the biggest hit look it will still be very good

Krug - McAvoy
Grzelcyk - Carlo
Zboril - Juulsen

and the forward group looks great

Marchand - Bergeron - Pasternak
Tatar - Kreci - Kuhlman
DeBrusk - Beecher - Heinen
Byron - Studnikia - Senyshyn

Boston is also in win now mode with bergeron marchand and krecji not getting any younger they will want to use there window to finish what they came 1 win away from doing last year
tatar gives boston a better replacement for marcus johannsen and byron is a better replacement for accari the team gets speed grit and 2 proven 20 goal scorers
BOS
  1. Byron, Paul ($1,000,000 retained)
  2. Juulsen, Noah
  3. Tatar, Tomas
  4. 2021 2nd round pick (MTL)
Additional Details:
Backes contract fits perfectly with mtl with it coming off the books when we need to pay KK and Gally
Vaakanainen has top pair upside and i think he will be top pair or 2nd pair he is a top tier prospect and checks of a box With Domi and Drouin taking the spot in the top 6 tatar becomes less of a need and has shown that he needs to be a top 6 player and he wont be in the future and byron is on the 4th line this season
3.
MTL
  1. Honka, Anttoni [Reserve List]
  2. 2021 3rd round pick (CAR)
Additional Details:
This trade happens in 2020-21 trade deadline

At this time Carolina will be in a playoff hunt and danault makes a good 2c centre until necas can step in to that role and then he will be a 3c and the best 3c in the league Carolinas centre depth would be scary with danault looking like

Aho
Necas
Danault
Rees
CAR
  1. Danault, Phillip
Additional Details:
This trade happens in 2020-21 trade deadline

At this point Danault becomes what Freddy galvis was to the blue jays a solid player a leader but had to give his spot up to the youth by this time poehling will have steped in to a bigger role and suzuki will be given some time at centre Danault becomes the piece that fills the hole that petry left a top 4 dman Yes Josh Brook has that potential but there is the key word potential adding another top4 upside player only makes the chances greater and either way makes the right side strong with a high chance of a top 4 player and a top 4 player could be on the bottom pair make all 3 pairs roll
4.
MTL
  1. 2022 2nd round pick (EDM)
Additional Details:
Honestly these dont relally matter just i think kulak and chiarot will be traded for picks in like 21-22 dont take 2 seriously
5.
MTL
  1. 2022 2nd round pick (EDM)
Additional Details:
Honestly these dont relally matter just i think kulak and chiarot will be traded for picks in like 21-22 dont take 2 seriously
6.
MTL
  1. 2022 3rd round pick (FLA)
Additional Details:
Honestly these dont relally matter just i think kulak and chiarot will be traded for picks in like 21-22 dont take 2 seriously

spoiler alert: the bruins aren't trading one of their top prospects, a guy they refused to even discuss in conversations about trading for Mark Stone, to the Montreal Canadiens.

The biggest problem here is that you overvalued all of the Montreal players in these trades

Carolina is maybe the teams that would be the last on my probable trade partners this season after the Aho offer, I don't know why everyone here tries to partner with them.

If you've passed so much time on this Armchair you should've taken the correct year (At least the closest one) to start with and shouldn't have 18 players on LTIR. When I go over that it doesn't show that you've put effort in that, more that you've just donked players here and there and call it a day.

i like your plan. Personnally, i'd try being a contender next year while Price is still in prime. One (succesful !) offer sheet and one good trade should do it. But , if it is decided that we are too far from contending, and if the GM decide to wait for another 3-4 years, than your moves are exactly the right type of moves . In that case , the only adjustment i'd make to your plan : why not trade Price . This would get us a top 3 forward or top 2 defenseman . And i love Gally but same as you I think in 4 years he is a 3rd liner, and we can't pay 8M$ for a 3rd liner imo.

So I agree with you : either aim for the cup, or build for the future but nothing in between
