I think you have it backwards. The team that has the player on LTIR, pays out less actual cash. Insurance companies are paying most of if not all of Kesler's actual salary. Eriksson isn't injured so whomever has him, is actually paying his salary.

What your trying to accomplish here makes more sense if you offered the same package to Buffalo for Bogosian. Van gets small cap relief now, a lot more later since Bogo is UFA this year but that comes at the cost of a prospect and a couple picks that Buffalo gets for taking on the longer term in Eriksson.

^All very true. I wasn't saying that ANA would be saving money overall on the deal, just that there is a small portion of actual salary that team's have to cover when they're on LTIR that the insurance companies don't (not sure what the ratio is though).

Oh ok. It depends on the coverage. If it's insured, it anywhere from 85-100%. The actual dollars are peanuts at that point though right? Plus the player can be placed on LTIR to spend over the cap if need be.

I guess it comes down to is 6M over 3 seasons worth Lockwood, a 2nd and a 7th? IMO nope nope nope.
