Likely Belleville Roster to Open the Year

Description
Here's what I think Belleville probably looks like at the start of the season. I think the team is good enough here to take a run to the playoffs and maybe even push for the Calder Cup if and when they get some guys sent back for the playoffs by the big club. Many of these players could also find themselves called up during the season, and some may even start the year in Ottawa.

1st Line - Lots of skill and potential here with Abramov and Balcers trying to prove they deserve a call up and Chlapik trying to show he is a potential replacement for JGP when he gets traded at the TDL.

2nd Line - Speed for days on this line. Formenton and Norris have Top Six upside, but I think project better as 3rd liners in the NHL, while Davidsson remains a bit of an enigma, but could have some Middle Six potential in the NHL.

3rd Line - I wish Gruden could slot in here, but he's back to junior this season. Carcone-Paul-Rodewald is a line of guys I think are probably career-AHLers, but who are potential call ups for injuries pre-deadline. The Sens won't want to shuttle top guys all season, so these third-liners will have a chance to show they deserve a spot on the 4th line in the NHL.

4th line - Kelly centres a 4th line that doesn't have a lot of NHL potential beyond him. Kelly strikes me as the type of guy who fights his way onto the big club one day and contributes as an energy guy. Maybe he's more than that, but that's where I see him fitting in one day, if at all, on the big club.

1st D - Brannstrom and Jaros could be in Ottawa to start the year, or they could spend some time honing their game in the AHL until the TDL. Would be a solid top pair in the AHL.

2nd D - Lajoie and Goloubef need to show they can improve and deserve a shot in the NHL. I think Lajoie has more potential to do it, but both guys could be injury call ups during the season.

3rd D - Alsing and Ebert or maybe Englund round out the D, but don't project as NHL regulars, in my opinion.

Goalies - Hogberg and Daccord split the net in the AHL this year I think, while Gustavsson tries to find his game in the ECHL. This will be the case until either Nilsson or Anderson gets injured, or in the unlikely event that Andy plays well enough to get traded at the TDL.

Finally something realistic. I agree with everything you said. I think Balcers does get called up at some point to stay. I hope Brannstrom does too unless the Sens are getting pummeled regularly, then I think it would be better for him to play top pair AHL minutes in more competitive games to help with confidence.

Really like the lines. I think Balcers makes the big club to start the season sending either Brown or Veronneau down. I also don't see both Jaros and Brannstrom getting cut because they will need to carry 7 D up there. That third line is probably like an average AHL first line. And having a 4th line consisting of an ex-captain (on 2 different teams) who had 46 pts in 68 games last year, a former NHL first round pick, and a prospect who was over a point per game in the WHL last year is just overkill. This team is a contender for sure.
