So DET would have to pay a premium for a 5/6 dman? If Ras is going to leave BUF, BUF is going to have to lose that deal (no one deals a 24 yr old with a good contract because he's doing great).

why does everyone think risto is so bad at D he played in a man to man system that is just dumb in modern speed base league. he is slightly below avg at defense right now but way ahead of other 24 year old d man in his development.

LMAO Sabres fans over-value their players even more than Red Wings fans. Rasmus Ristolainen is Justin Schultz level bad from when he got traded to PIT in 2016, although he offers the physicality of Gudbranson. So he’s worth a 2nd rounder at best.

He is -143 since 2013-14 the next closest -97. Last season -41 the next closest -34.

Stats can give you a picture but they don't tell the whole story. Tampa Bay had arguably the best team on paper in the NHL last season but they got knocked out in the 1st round.

I get ristolainens value is down, but when did anthony mantha become anything special?

His stock went up at the end of last season when he had 8g 7a 15p in his last 10 games but then he went to the World Championships and had 7g 7a 14p in 9 games. If he didn't go off in the World Championships probably only a few people outside of Detroit would have noticed his streak at the end of the season and his value most likely would have stayed the same.

That is like saying he is the only tire that is inflated on a car that does not move. Useless. Their is zero chance Wings trade Mantha for Risto.

Maurice has used that man to man defense system in Winnipeg and it's confusingly bad, if that's what Buffalo has been using I'm not surprised to hear Ristolainen has struggled just like the Sabres have.

Rasmus Ristolainene is a one dimensional Dman, Sure he'll put up 50 points or so but sucks at D. Take far more then just Risto to get Mantha out of Detroit period. Detroit has no use for a one dimensional Dman.

Ok a defenseman who had 43 points last year but was a -41 and making over 5 million is not under achieving then what is? He was touted as top 2 guy but his contract and play do not measure up. He is a defensive liability, period. Wings do not need that kind of a player for a player who had 41 points, a -8, younger, and on a better deal as he is still a RFA after next year.
