The 2nd line is way better than the first and it has howden in the middle. Buch is not a first line player, maybe not even high end top 6. So that trade becomes unnecessary.

Quinn has already said he wants to play Panarin with Zibanejad on the top line, it just remains to be seen if Kakko ends up on that line, Kravstov or Buch.

Buch finished with 38 points in 64 games. More than half a point per game, finishing 2 points behind guys like Tom Wilson, Michael Ferland, Max Pacioretty and even Zuccarello, who all like Buch dealt with injuries this year. He may not be a 1st liner, which remains to be seen, but definitely a top 6 winger.

Read what i said. I said he is not a first line player and most likely not a top end top 6er. Is he middle to low end top 6 guy? Sure. But no team is going to be competitive with him on the top line.

You don't always need to put the best players stacked on the top line. Lots of teams split their forwards so that two of their best play with another decent player to get more depth. Chicago has done that for years. As has Philadelphia with Konecny and Edmonton with Chiasson. They can get a much better team by splitting their top talent across the top 6 rather than sticking them all on one line.

A top 6 forward is someone who deserves to be on the second line and can provide offense. I read what you said, Buch is a top 6 player on most teams in this league. Playing him on a 3rd line with less offensive minded players is wasting his talent and ability. Tom Wilson plays 1st line with Caps and helped them win a cup, it doesn’t always matter what line you are on but chemistry. Buch never played up to potential with AV as he was stuck playing with 3rd and 4th liners, for him to achieve success he needs to be top 6.
