Had We Tried to Keep Them

Created by: TCMonkey

Description
IMO we might light the lamp a lot (maybe) but our goaltending would not be good enough and we would still struggle in our own end. This team is not a true contender. So on top of not making it to the finals we'd have a lot of NMC with guys in their 30s, wouldn't be bad enough to get a high draft pick, be in cap trouble while trying to sign Tkachuk, Brown and Batherson to long term deals and have a VERY bare prospect cupboard.
* All that said, the only trade I'd reverse if I could was Mark Stone.

Agree with your assessment, but 10M in cap space and JGP to trade could add some help on defense, or trade out Nilsson and sign Bobrovsky so it doesn't matter?

Had We Tried to Keep TEM. Think the Sens tried, but by definition U FREE Agents had a choice. And what would be the point in overpaying players to convince them to stay.

I think Pageau could get us a late 1st round pick at the trade deadline, or maybe a D man of DeMelo quality, but I don't think a team would give up a player they NEED for their playoff run or one of their top 5 prospects. God, it's going to be sad to lose him...

Meh, in a season or two Brannstrom is gonna impress and you'll be glad they made that trade.

I think the tear it down to the bare bones rebuild that the Sens have done is the right way to do it, yes it's painful but in the long run they'll be better off for it.

Signing quality veterans to bring about a culture change will be key going forward, don't need Aholes and Dbags around the kids.

The most important thing for the Sens will be paying these kids fairly when the time comes, can't be trying to nickel and dime a guy like Chabot, that's a future Norris trophy winner that you build a franchise around, gotta lock that kid up for as long as possible.

Hope things work out for Sens fans sake, it's been a rough couple of seasons but the future looks bright at least.

I agree with almost 100% of this. Mark Stone is still a piece I'd have liked to keep. I know Brannstrom will be great but Stone is the kind of guy you want establishing the culture of a team and with Chabot as our first pairing LHD for the future there would've been far less costly ways to acquire a 2nd pairing guy IF Wolanin and Tychonick couldn't handle the ice time. But other than that - yes to all of your post.
