Pretty similar to the Kucherov bridge deal, Just not sure if Point would do this. but if he did it would help Tampa out immensely.

Seems to me that the new generation of RFA’s are trying to do away with the cheap bridge deal. There is going to be massive lockout during the next cba negotiation.

Point had over 90 points last year. . How many did Kuch have when he signed his bridge 3/4 years ago? .. adjusted AAV growth for top 50 is around 30% in last 3/4 years.. so combine salary inflation over time with Point MUCH better now than Kuch was years ago .. and you at 9M AAV easy.. I dont understand why Tampa WOULDNT sign him to this NOW .. he will be 12M in couple years.

Maybe others are, but Point has stated that a 3 year are deal is a possibility to which he would be open. I think he easily gets above $5m even then (though if not, he guarantees that he will forever be a fan-favorite and likely future “C” on our team), but a $6.5m-$7.5m deal is pretty close to a fair bridge deal, especially if Point is willing to take a discount. The deals in the $8m or even $9m realm are realistic for 5-8 years, but there’s no way that’s what BriseBois wants and Point has indicated that he’s open to not doing that either.

Besides, Point plays on a team with Kucherov, Vasilevskiy, Palat, and Johnson, all of whom benefited from the bridge approach which granted the team the flexibility to take them on Cup runs while giving them an opportunity to raise their value when the time comes to give them a long-term deal, at which point we’ve always one way or another managed to give it to them. I don’t see why Point would be so reluctant to follow those examples at a time when the team is begging for that.
