How to get Hall back

Created by: Yep81
Team: 2020-21 Edmonton Oilers
Initial Creation Date: Aug. 17, 2019
Published: Aug. 17, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
So a lot of Oilers fans (including me) hope and believe that we can have a shot at Hall next year. But a few things need to go down for that to happen.
1. New Jersey can’t do amazing. From what I know Hall doesn't have much attachment to New Jersey. So they either need to not make the playoffs or have an early first round exit. I think this is very possible.
2. The Oilers need to show that they have hope for the future. We need to do what we can to compete for a wild card spot. At least get closer then we did last year.
3. Maybe trade Larson. This one might not be at all important. But if Larson at all reminds him of how the Oilers ditched him deal him, Hall is worth it. No matter what though Holland will probably deal him anyways to make room for younger guys.
4. DON’T TRADE NUGE. Nuge is the guy he knows best on the Oilers and I’m sure Hall would like it much better if he was still on the team.
5. Holland and Kates need to sit down with him. Tell him that letting Chirelli trade him was the worst decision ever. And that there doing everything they can to undo the mess he made.
6. PAY HIM. He says money isn’t important but let’s be real. A player like him will earn more that 10 and a half. So pay him generously.

Not mad. But Kapanen is worth more than a second and an AHLer.

Jets might like the trade, but they have no cap.

"From what I know Hall doesn't have much attachment to New Jersey."

What just is it that you know? Enlighten us all!
Hall left a team who has squandered and ruined a bunch of careers! From ownership to management to coaches to office staff! The last ten years are embarrassing.

Hall came to a team who wanted him! who's GM went and met him at his home to tell him on his first offseason when he was still stunned that the team he loved moved him. Telling him he's a better player than they traded. He threw the team on his back and carried them like a leader. Making the playoffs for the first time in his career.
He may indeed leave to be on a favorite to win the cup, although this team has been setup to be a consistent playoff team for years. He may even decide to go back to Edm although I know of no one who thinks that.
But any of it that happens is not from your dumb statement of "from what you know Hall has no attachment"
His chances are far better to be a winner here.

Acquiring Hall, I think will not make the club better. The Oilers had the 2nd and 4th scorers in the league last season and still failed to qualify for postseason. The problem is defence and goaltending. Address these liabilities and Edmonton will be a playing the post season.

The $11M assigned to Hall would be better spent addressing their needs. If Jersey can’t sign Hall, then next season he will be coveted, and can play wherever he chooses. Edmonton, I think would be far on the list. I think I had read somewhere (rumour) that he lost some heart playing for the Oilers. He needed a change of scenery.

Oiler fans need to let that trade go. Edmonton has been horrible on defence since McDavid entered the league. I think it was imperative the club acquired a young defenseman, who could log hard minutes defending against their opponents best players. To compare the positions is like comparing apples and oranges. In my opinion, it takes a defensemen longer to reach that elite level than forwards. Will Larson be an elite defenseman? I don’t know, but without him today, competitively I think they are worst.

Edmonton needs to pursue another Larson. A defenseman who can log minutes against the opponents better players. When the Oilers made their miracle run pursuing the cup in 2006, they had Roloson in net, Pronger, who seemed to be everywhere defending, making Roloson better and their captain, overlooked and under appreciated Jason Smith, who may be thought as a poor man’s version of Chris Pronger, at least defensively.

In my humble opinion, it is not more offence the Oilers need. It is defence.

Count me one as who doesn't understand these JP trades. He's a bare NHLer on poor team. IMO there isn't room for him on a NHL contender roster
