Teams deserve compensation for prospects that leave UFA. Unfair to the Caps to find a gem in the 6th round and get nothing. CAR should have to at least give up a 6th to the Caps.

That's an insane amount of RD talent. If this guy is NHL ready, might signal a Justin Faulk trade.

News was Carolina was trying to Acquire his rights for over a month

sounds to me like Washington got greedy and ended up with nothing

They should give the Caps the pick that they got from the Rangers in next years draft for Fox (they can keep the one they used already)

Canes, unlike the Caps, were proactive and got 2 2nds from the Rags a year early. Asset management is a b****.

Agree, but it should be a pick from the round after the prospect was originally signed. Otherwise, a team with, say, the third pick in the third round (#65) would have an incentive NOT to sign a guy who had been drafted 89th overall some years earlier.

It's just poor asset management from Washington. Priskie wanted Carolina, if they were smart enough they would have traded him , See Adam Fox trade. It was just Washington thinking he'd sign with them when in reality he wanted to go elsewhere

Washington's faliure to manage their assets isn't Carolina's problem, if they wanted something back they should have traded him to the Canes for something, they didn't they got nothing for him. That is on Washington not Carolina. Especially because that pick is going to end up being a 2nd rounder

Think they were hoping he was going to a team outside of the division like it was reported. They'd rather that happen than trade him in the division for a late pick.

It was known he wanted Carolina though. Sara Civ of the athletic was reporting it at the draft

It was reported that Carolina wanted him, don't think there was ever a report that Priskie himself wanted to go to Carolina. The two teams in Florida made way more sense in terms of him being at home and getting a chance to play.

It was reported he wanted Carolina. He apparently wanted to work with the coaches who made guys like Pesce and Slavin top 30ish D men in the league

Okay cool. Maybe he did I just never saw. I just remember the report CAR was trying to get Priskie, not necessarily Priskie was trying to get to CAR.
