If Marner not resigning with the Leafs is because Matthews makes 11.643 m and Marner wants the same....maybe trading Matthews and Nylander is the solution as you suggest Then Leafs don't have to pay Marner a ridiculous amount like 11.25m, just more than Schmaltz at 5.85m, so lets say 6m. Wow, another 5.25m in cap space.

I don't know how many times the same trade has been posted on the site.

The thing that makes me laugh is Brad Richardson included in that trade. I know it's a detail, but it just make the trade idea even less serious.

The cost for Matthews would be huge. I'm just not sure whether Schmaltz would be the piece that seals the deal here. It's not an adequate return. It would be Keller plus something big. Barrett Hayton could be another piece in the deal, but given the uncertainty with prospects, that still doesn't add up.
