Karlsson has a consistent track record of being head and shoulders above everyone else and even while battling injuries had a better year than pretty much everyone. Jones had a Norris caliber season in 17-18, but that’s 1 season and this year he scored way less, and had a worse defensive impact. Slavin could move up a bit I guess because of how great his playoffs were.

So for you karlsson is a better defenseman then anybody! So you don’t take count of defensive responsibility. Because if you do there no way that karlsson be number one even when he is healthy. But he is
The best offensive defenceman in the league by a mile.

If i had too have a defenceman entering the third period in deficit by one goal i would choose karlson but if where leading and we need to protect the lead karlson would
Even be in my top 20. Guy like brian dumoulin, pietrangelo, vlasic, josi, pesce, morissey, doesn’t get much credit but they are rock stone defender

Karlsson dominates possession and drives play so much better than everyone else that his somewhat unimpressive d-zone play isn’t very important. Do I want him defending a 1-goal lead late? Probably not, but his impact on the game and his ability to improve everyone he plays with makes him the best.

Besides his fantastic 17-18 campaign, please tell me what Jones has done in his career to warrant the top-5 positioning that everyone claims he is.

Jones vs. Rielly is a legit argument, but Letang and Klingberg drive play better in both directions while also scoring more

Ive seen him play a lot since rds broadcast senators everygame and yes he add the puck a lot but he is really bad defensively. Sure he is really fun too watch but he repeat the same mistake again and again. Paul
Maclean and guy boucher got fired because they where benching karlson in some game.

Krug is a top 20.....a guy who has to be hidden on his own team.
I'm sorry top 20 defensemen don't have to be hidden.
Dahlin has played 1 year. Do you even know what you got there?

Krug played 25 minutes a night in the finals, that’s not “hidden.” Dahlin is also legit

??? Erik karlson you mean? You best season when you miss 30 games. Not sure how that is possible. He struggled the first 30 games. And is playoff was not great. Not sure if where talking about the same players

Yes, Erik Karlsson, he produced one of his best seasons yet even while being incredibly unlucky with a 1.8 sh%, 98 PDO and battling some tough injuries.

He's still the best d-man in the league

The pdo is the backstreet boys of analytics. That might be your worst arguments. Pdo
Is more a out luck then actual skill. Is number are good because coach use him properly. 60% of offensive faceoff no penalty kill. He is a awesome skilled defenseman but he isn’t the top defenseman.

Krug played 25 minutes a night in the finals because Chara was a pylon who couldn't move and was getting blown off the ice constantly. Not because he was a good defender.
They been hiding him for years. 72.4% offensive zone starts. Don't tell me they didn't hide him. He was one of the most sheltered defense men in the league last year, and he's CLEARLY not a top 20.
