Why give up assets? Wild aren’t going to be good next year. Just get him as a ufa? Plus krill will be in the nhl that year right?

Yeah I don't really think trading for Schultz is a good idea. First, the assets it'll cost to get him aren't assets the Wild should give up (picks/prospects) since I have a feeling we will be missing the postseason again next year and possibly in two years. Second, Schultz needs PP time and where would he slot in on our PP? I'm gunna guess the 1st unit is Parise, Staal, Zuccarello, Dumba, and Suter. The 2nd unit will probably be Zucker, Koivu/Kunin, Fiala/Donato, Spurgeon, and Hunt. There's already too many guys even if we move Spurgeon. If we really want Schultz, just sign him in the offseason.

Or Faulk if he's interested in going home. If they end up moving on from Spurgeon, they'd need to replace him with a guy like Faulk or Schultz if they want to meet Leipold's goal of trying for the playoffs.

I think the new GM will be given a fairly large leash, even after Fenton and if they don't make the playoffs. Leipold has only ever hired 3 GM's: Poile, Fletcher, and Fenton. That's a short list for a guy who has owned an NHL team for 22 years. And when you consider the fact that Leipold fired Fenton because of his personality issues and not because of his trades/missing the playoffs, I don't think he's going to force the new GM to make moves for Faulk or Schultz if we trade Spurgeon. Trading Spurgeon probably means we're missing the playoffs anyways, we're much better off keeping him as a rental than trading him to replace him with a downgrade rental if Leipold truly is forcing the GM to make the playoffs.

The penguins won't trade him unless they are out the playoffs, the reason being they too need a 2RD.
If they don't make the playoffs, he might be available for a A level prospect RD and a 1st. He'd probably be on of the best defense men on the trade market.
