Worst case scenario is that he is in the lineup. AHL is like the 2nd/3rd option

Moore will be on LTIR. He won't be ready until late November. Miller maybe ready and if so he can be traded.

Is Backes really that bad? I realize he's worth nowhere near his cap hit, but he's still a NHL quality player, no?

Its more of the Bruins having to find ways to pinch every penny they can to get Carlo and McAvoy signed.

But assuming you put Backes in the AHL ($1.075M savings) and replace him with Lindholm ($850k cap hit) in this roster, you're really only saving $225k of cap space unless the Bruins decide to play with only 22 guys on the roster. Is that going to make much of a difference?

You can do that when the players have long term injuries

Like I said every cent they can save helps the Bruins. I think they have enough organizational depth that can replace Backes as it is. Trent Frederic would be a good replacement. Production wise would probably get the same but durability would be better imo. But in the end the money saved on the demotion may not be huge it'll still help the Bruins in their current situation.
