WHO WILL SCORE 40 NEXT YEAR

Created by: CD282
Team: 2019-20 Custom Team
Initial Creation Date: Aug. 19, 2019
Published: Aug. 19, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Thirteen players got to 40 last year:

Ovechkin
Draisaitl
Tavares
Stamkos
P. Kane
McDavid
Point
Atkinson
DeBrincat
MacKinnon
Kucherov
Skinner
Guentzel

Several more would have if they had played 82 games:

Arvidsson (34 in 58 gp)
Pastrnak (38 in 66)
Matthews (37 in 68)
Pavelski (38 in 75)

That's 17. Here are some others that could legitimately hit 40:

Marchand (36, 34, 39 and 37 in the past 4 seasons)
Crosby (40+ twice in his career, 35 last year)
Tkachuk (34 as a 20/21-year-old)
Tarasenko (33, 33, 39, 40 and 37 in the past 5 seasons)
Seguin (33, 40, 26, 33, 37 and 37 in the past 6 seasons)
Forsberg (36 goal pace last year)
Hertl (37 goal pace last year)
Lee (scored 40 in 17-18)
Scheifele (scored 38 last year)
Laine (scored 44 in 17-18)
Karlsson (scored 43 in 17-18)
Malkin (scored 42 in 17-18, broken 40 3x in his career)
Hall (scored 39 in 17-18)

That's 13 more for 30. And it's not inconceivable for guys like Pacioretty, Kessel and Benn to hit the 40 mark either - all have come close in the past. And I've probably missed a few, too. What about young players who could hit the mark for the first time? Names like Pettersson, Dubois, B. Tkachuk, A. Svechnikov, Connor, Rantanen and Larkin come to mind. That's like 40 guys with a shot at scoring 40 next year.

Ovechkin, Kucherov, Mackinnon, Debrincat, Draisaitl will get 40 and maybe a couple of surprise guys. Maybe Tavares but depends how quick Marner comes back, hes not a 40 goal guy with out Marner.

Why Guenztel? With Kessel leaving he's going to get slotted into PP1 most likely

Skinner was carried so much by Eichel, he'll hit 30 probably, Guentzel won't hit 40 again (coming from a pens fan) but again he should easily hit 30-35+, Atkinson won't either, Crosby won't, he's turning into a pure playmaker, Malkin just isn't good enough and doesn't have good enough linemates to anymore, Stamkos might fall, Pavelski won't hit 40, Tkachuk probably won't Seguin and Hertl probably won't, Lee and WK won't, so that leaves 18 out of your list that I think could/will hit 40, say injuries stay similar, that's 14 40 G scorers, I could see it

Outside of his rookie season, Stamkos has had just 2 seasons where he had a scoring pace of less than 40. That's EIGHT (count 'em) seasons where he was on pace to score 40+. He's the ONLY player to have scored 60 in the past decade. He's 2nd only to Ovi in total goals scored in the past 10 years, and 51 up on 3rd place Tavares - despite having played 84 fewer games!

He'll also be getting less ice time next year than basically any of those other years, and he probably won't have as good of linemates (he'll still have very good linemates bc Tampa) as he has had previously as well

I think he could but depends if they split him and Drai. If they do, and he ends up playing with yamamoto or something hes gonna get him points but with less goals

Is Jake Guetzel actually that good?
The reason he is called "good" is because Crosby is a playmaker and always passes to his team mates which happens to be Guenzel. So really he isn't that good. Without Crosby he would be an average player.

I'd take the odds on Zibanejad. He put up 30 last season and will now be flanked by Panarin and Kakko

DeBrusk has a shot. Would’ve had 35 if he was healthy all last season, and then when you consider his major slump when they forced him to play RW (which hes not good at), 40+ goals seems very plausible for debrusk if he has a full, healthy season at left wing with Krejci

You can say that about lots of good shooters though. Laine, for instance.

I don't know, he scored 41 each of the past 2 seasons, I don't see why he won't again. Over that span McDavid has played 2700 minutes at 5v5, only 1300 of which (48%) he played with Draisaitl. And from comments he's made to the media this summer, Tippett seems to want to keep them together.

Kakko's another name I almost listed, to be honest. I feel like he'll be a threat in his 2nd year.
