That literally incorrect. What has been reported, is that the Leafs offered 3 different deals, an 8 year, 6 year and 3 year deal, for just under 11, just under 10 and just under 8 respectively. The speculation is Ferris countered with 3x10 which the Leafs didn't accept.

Barrie is a clear upgrade over anyone they had. You are falling victim to the same anti leaf crap that plagues this site. Barrie in Colorado, a pretty good defender who played a lot of the tougher minutes in Colorado's playoff drive last season, has been an offensive and possession powerhouse for years and was a well respected defenceman.

I agree with you. I think 10 for 3 is a great deal for both sides. In 3 years, he can get his 8 year 11 million dollar deal.

I agree with you. I think Barrie is a great addition to Toronto. It annoys me when people look at a good puck moving defenseman and they're like "oh they suck just because they are good offensively." People don't understand that someone can actually play well offensively AND defensively. I personally would love Barrie and Rielly on the top pair.

10x3 is like 2.5mil overpayment so thats a nono from leafs. Id argue that anything above 7 on 3yr deal is overpayment..

Sure Barrie can put himself out of position from time to time, but he also has the puck most of the time, creates more offense and shots and has a much higher expected goals number than most other players. Same with Rielly (when he isn't having to bail out Hainsey all the time), he just has the puck all the time so when he makes a mistake its not that bad since he does so many other things better than almost anyone else.

Doubt if the Leafs offered that contract 10M x 8 is more like it. Doesn't really matter what Marner has turned down at this point. He may have to take previous Leaf offers...or even less. His options of making more $$$$ elsewhere is very limited...heck he might not even have an option except the Leafs.
