I would go to 10m on 6 years. If he doesn’t sign that I think the fans will give their blessings to Dubas to fire him into the sun.

Leafs shouldn't bargain in bad faith by offering just a term deal. Offer a one year, two, five, six, seven and eight year term. Mitch (or his father) has a choice of term and the money the Leafs have attached.
But tell him, miss any team in training camp, or regular season, the contracts offered are off the table. Now the $$$ goes down.

He’s not going to Europe. Ferris does this all the time and never works

I mean I guess he could reach out to the GMs that approached him early in the summer about an offer sheet and perhaps sign one and be done with contract stuff? At least he'd still be somewhere in North America lol.

Yes, teach him a lesson.
I like to see how your team does without it's top scorer.
The League is going to lock out the players or the players strike in 3 years. Pay him 10 for 3.

And the 11 million too. Don't forget the 11 million. You know....even if a team wanted to pay him 11 million, not a big deal...teams have overpaid plenty of players in the past...but the kicker here is that no GM wants to pay 11 million for a player and also give up picks.

That's like double kick in the nuts for any GM. That's the truth for you in a nutshell.

You really don't get get it do you? It's about a fair salary in today's cap world....that's it. You're an Oiler following/fan, you should know how paying player(s) too much, (I know it's subjective) hurts a club for years.

Ohhhh how the whole league has... don’t see anyone else willing to overpay him either. I certainly don’t like Ferris’ tactics but you have to admit they seem to be escalating his price. As for Mitch, he’s a good kid and a great hockey player. I don’t think that some nasty negotiations that he has little to do with will tarnish him that badly.

I think this is precisely what dubas has been doing. I don’t mind the idea of getting creative with term/aav. In the end both parties have to be happy with the deal in place.

He’ll end up getting somewhere between 10.5-11 x 6 - dubas will lose this game of chicken.

I'd be willing to bet that Dubas has offered him each of those deals. You and I would, and we're not smart enough to be running the Leafs.

If say Domi scores a 100 points this year( not going to happen) they should pay him 11.5 a season for two years.

This is b.s that these young players are not getting signed. Almost all of them are top players on there teams and should be paid that way.
This is just looking bad on the NHL. A lock out or hold out is coming.

Why would a lock out occur ? Unless the players get a higher % in revenue share, the cap will remain the same. Betcha most members of the NHLPA are a little perturbed to see the raise in % that the high end players are gettingwhich is squeezes the bottom the 17 paid players in pay. Leafs are going to spend to the cap and do many teams, so their is no financial benefit to the teams on how the cap distribution among players.

This is a NHLPA issue and not an owners issue. The revenues are at 50-50 and that's not changing. What the NHLPA has to decide especially for the next CBA is how to distribute their share of the pie.

It's hard to believe the older PA members are going to just be okay taking less money. The younger members don't have the same standing within the PA as that is gained over time and with very little rights...not sure how younger players will get a bigger share of the pie.
