Marner to CGY - reunites with Tkachuck

Created by: BeanCountingCowboy

Description
Question for everyone. Are the Flames even a better team after losing Hanifin, Frolik and Bennett? Both big contracts for the RFA's are at values higher and term shorter than Evolving Wild's contract projections, as I think they are a little shy of reality with the RFA craziness going on.

Hanfin, Frolik & Bennett don't even equal Marner's 3/4 so yes they're better

Both teams say no, Flames loose their depth and Leafs loose their best playmaker

Also, if he would sign for that it would already be done.

that's not true. No ones signing because no GM wants to be the one to set the market for everyone else, and the RFA's dont want to be the one to get bent over

Let me put it this way if he would sign for that he wouldn't get traded.

Maybe not if you add up all the points... but you can't compare D-men to forwards by points. Hanifin is a 22 year old top 4 D locked in with term under $5 mil with over 300 games of NHL experience. That's worth something

Lindholm,Bennet, 1st in 2020 , and 1st in 2021 (or Dube contract)
for
Marner (who if CGY offersheet will cost them four 1st rounders )

TML gets a older but skilled RW back in the deal in Lindholm , a 3rd line winger in Bennett and either 2 firsts or a first and Dube .
CGY clears enough cap to give CGY an addition 8m cap to sign Tkchuck and Marner giving them 16m roughly making them 1 move from being able to lock up both .

Frolik to CAR makes sense filling the space Ferland left where he can put up 15-17 goals and 30-40 points for scoring depth
grab someone like Fleury who's no longer Waiver Exempt and can be lost for nothing when they waive him in favor of Slavin , Bean and Forsling .
Fleury and a pick should make it worth it for both teams (CAR saves face by not losing Fleury for nothing like MTL did Scherbak )

to a team like MTL looking for a LD just like that absolutely
to TML with no spot for Hanofin in the top 4 thats another story

if you offered them a top 4 RD with the same production and age its a different discussion
but TML doesnt need Hanofin , it needs Lindholm if Marner's moving plain and simple

Funny how so many posts have changed. Now we are seeing posts, acknowledging that 11m is too high for "their" team to sign Marner to an offer sheet. But somehow Marner will now take 9m or so, less than what the Leafs are offering and sign with the non Leaf team via a trade.shakes head

I know eh! Yet they'd call us delusional when we would suggest that he would sign for less.

If they don't sign him there are quite a few that willing to give up more to get him.

I think the point Ledge_And_Dairy was trying to make was the could and probably do have a deal in place. But it's probably for an obscene amount money and they are waiting to the last possible moment to go public so other players can't say well Marner got this much.

Be interesting to see how the Flames manage the cap the following season. Half of that 22 (so it's not even a full roster) are either RFA/UFA. The buyouts will still be on the books so they will only have whatever the cap increases by, plus not signing a number of players.

A lot have, yes. Personally I've said all along that the likes of Marner & Rantanen should get no more than 9, and that only on a long term deal, so a lot of ppl would consider me a tight wad. 8.5 - 9 over five should be the max they should expect with Aho's signing having basically set the market. The rest will be whose camp blinks first.
