Yea I agree! This can be a steal I think within 2 years of his contract. Surprised that they did 6 years. Kind of a random #.

Good contract, was expecting a bridge deal though. This could be a steal in a few seasons.

Six years buys the team one of White's UFA years. Better for White's camp that he's a UFA at the end, and better for the team to have White at a low cap hit when they have Chabot, Tkachuk Brannstrom etc on contracts.

I like the terms and there is still room to improve for him!! He's definitely gonna be a steal in the late years of his contract!! For once Dorion is not looking like Mathis 12 years old in nhl 12 gm mode..

Great signing! Finally Dorion is doing something good. This signature kind of looks like the Girard's one with the Avs. A good Young player who is maybe a little expensive at the beginning of the contract but could be a BIG discount in the futur.

LOVE the term but 4.0 million a year would have been fair for White

Eh. Contract is fine. Seems like a touch too much but who else are the sens going to pay?
I think white is going to have a similar role on the sens that Bozak had on the Leafs in that he will be playing way too high in the lineup, but doing it to the best of his abilities being alright at a decent price. It is not like it is his fault or anything.

He needs to take that next step otherwise this is a clear overpay, but as long as he can hit ~50-60 points and do well in the special teams then the contract will be a success for the sens.

Overall it is a decent signing. Not great but certainly not bad.

So he’s making high 3rd line or low 2nd line money. Will he be fulfilling that role (and doing it well) on the Senators for the duration of the contract? Almost certainly. Y1 and maybe Y2 will be a bit of an overpay but the value for Y3-Y6 far outweigh that. Moreover it’s not like the Sens will be close to the cap in Y1 or Y2 so I don’t think there’s really any downside.

From the perspective of the organization, it locks up a forward who can be marketed as part of a bright young core that will (one day) return this bereft sad sack of a franchise back to respectability. I’m truly bewildered that a bridge deal wasn’t insisted on by the player and his agent as there’s a 90% chance he’d be making more money in the long-term if he went that route. That said there’s nothing wrong with saying yes to a guaranteed $28.5M. And he’ll still be young enough to cash in big when he hits UFA when this contract is over.

I’m cutting costs, Ottawa cut team email addresses - so he obviously didn’t get the memo.

It was a robot who automatically votes "NO" to anything involving the Sens.

Its an awesome deal.... just remember, if Dude's a bust before 3 years, don't be afraid to buy him out (or trading or that kinda' thing). If you buy him out, he's 3.6975 in 3 yrs (approx) with a savings of over 12 (approx) because that 3.6975 gets spread out over 6 years (616250). You can't wait 4 years, you don't get those savings.

There was really no sense going short term to keep his cap hit low given that the Sens will be awful for probably the next couple years and don't need the space. They've likely got a top 6 forward at < $5M for the four years of this deal where the team may be competitive.
