He was pretty good in San Jose, I didn’t expect him to get that kind of term at age 41 but he has a great voice.

Well this signing sets the market for Marner, who is twice as good as White, so 9.5 million for 6 years it is.

Definitely feels like overpayment. White doesnt strike as more than 3rd line player.

Time will tell.

It's kind like the Bozak signing. Bozak was first line centre on bad teams, 4.625 as second or third liner on good team...in a few years even with a modest cap rise, not so bad at all.

This is a smart signing. White likely would be in the low to mid $3M range based on comparables on 3 year deal, and a lot of teams had to do those deals because they couldn't afford to buy future years at the expense of current cash and cap hit. Ottawa can do it, so it's nice step to see them do something that is very future oriented.

Kidding. There was another Colin White, he played for the Devils for 12 years then played his last year with San Jose in 2011. Big tough defenseman.

Whether he remains a pivot or gets moved to right wing he will likely be top 6 throughout this entire contract. It's a great deal.

This contract was a good risk to take.

If COVID never happened, the cap would be somewhere between 90-100 million, depending on the NHLPA escalator.

So the upside for this contract was pretty good if White could continue on as a top 6 RW or C.

The downside was a six figure buyout before the age of 26.

Injuries and not playing with Mark Stone anymore nerfed White's career. He could still be a decent player, but the buyout was too advantageous to pass up since this was the last season the Senators could get the U26 rate.
