These laine trades arent cutting it

Description
I decided to make this because these laine trades are just bad. If you want him it’s quality over quantity. Not a couple of 4th liners and one b prospect to make it look good. Your taking about the 6th all time goal scorer in a players first three seasons. He has a lot of time to improve his other areas and he has a unreal ceiling. If he can develop consistency, which he will with age he will have no problem hitting a 50 goal season. So if you are going to trade him, it’s gotta be at least a good roster player (second line center, top 4 dman) or at least a combination of good prospects and a first round pick.

Drouin (good roster player)
Juulsen (not top 4 d man but potential)
Suzuki (A grade prospect)
2nd rounder.

Juulsen + Suzuki surely = the value of a top 4 dman.

To be honest, value-wise it's not that far off, I personally think Winnipeg doesn't bite though.

Obviously not all time but their is a list where the players ahead are matthews, stamkos, Tavares, Crosby, ovi, McDavid. It’s in the first 3 seasons I believe for goals but I forget the actual stat.

Ahh here comes the backpedal. All the other players bring significantly more to the table than just goal scoring too.

Cmon theirs a lot of people in here that thing they can plug in their unwanted player and a couple mid round picks and call it a done deal. I’ve seen people on here that think Risto straight up or Klefbom is a fair trade.

Drouin (good roster player) DEMANDED A TRADE, 50 point winger. Even after trading Laine would still be behind Wheeler, Ehlers and Connor at best where we already have Roslovic and Vesalainen as well.
Juulsen (not top 4 d man but potential) DAMAGED GOODS
Suzuki (A grade prospect) LATE FIRST ROUNDER AND A PERIMETER PLAYER
2nd rounder. AWESOME

Juulsen + Suzuki surely = the value of a top 4 dman.

I would be furious if the Jets considered that trade for more than one second.

Domi for Drouin
Brooks for Juulsen
2020 !st unprotected for Suzuki
2021 1st conditional on Laine scoring 40+ goals in either season for the 2nd.

Then I could get on board. The Jets don't have to move Laine, don't want to move Laine and shouldn't move Laine. Overpayment is required.

MTL hangs up when the word Domi comes in.

Thanks anyways.

Lol just read some of the shot on here. A lot of people don’t appreciate that laine has already placed himself on alot of record lists.

Ovi scored more... alot more 163
Stamkos scored more 119
Matthews scored more 111

Only reason Crosby and McDavid didn't outscore him was injuries.
All scored more points

Laine is great but lets not make up stuff

Ya cmon but to me the only “perfect” all around players to come in the league recent history has been Sidney Crosby and Connor McDavid. Tell me, was OVI The perfect all around player when he was younger, no. Was stamkos the great playmaker he is now when he was younger? No. Was Bergeron the point producing threat he is now when he was younger? No. Is auston Matthews great defensively right now? No. My point is that yes laine still has a lot to work on, but if you’re not willing to give him the time to learn you will regret later on when you have traded him off your team. Especially for a poor return.

They still brought something else to their games even at that point. A lot of these trade ideas you are scoffing at are perfectly fair value.

Please.... elaborate on why you think that is? I'd love to hear it. You think the Jets should trade Laine, I think they shouldn't under any circumstance short of a clear overpayment. Anything close to "fair value" shouldn't be considered unless it's a 1 for 1 hockey trade. If you're going to 3 or more pieces that's a hard pass especially when there are question marks with all the pieces being offered.

Will Juulsen's vision ever be the same? It impacted him in the AHL. can he adjust? I don't think so and so he doesn't address our need for a future top pair RHD. If he didn't have the injury who knows but not taking the risk when we're talking about moving Laine.

Drouin failed when they played him at C so he doesn't address our need for a 1b center to play behind Scheif. At best he's a replacement winger for the top 6 but we already have guys we can play in that spot so he's not needed nor wanted at all. I get that you want to move him, but that doesn't mean that we want to take him.

Suzuki is probably who we would have drafted had we not switched spots with Vegas so they would select an expiring contract in the expansion draft. He probably will be good in a few years but our window is now and there's always risk with prospects. Since I was taking Domi I was leaving Suzuki so you still have KK, Danault, Suzuki down the middle longer term.

a 2nd round pick is going to get us a less than 30% chance at a player that plays in the NHL at all. Doesn't get me excited.

So you don't have a rationale for why you think it's a bad take? Just making sure.

I'm not upset, I just wanted to hear the other side of the arguement. It seems like if you're uninformed and can't back it up when you trash someone else's opinion you should read more. Post less. Stop getting so butthurt.

It's good advice. I hope you take it.

Lmao you really need someone explain why Domi, Brooks, and potentially 2 1sts is terrible for Laine?

I think there is so much debate on both sides because Laine's value is impossible to predict right now.
If he develops into one of the greatest goal scorers of all time and he's on your team for 8 years then what's his value? Definitely more than the MTL trades above IMO.
If he ends up being an elite goal scorer but a defensive liability then I think the MTL deals are on over-payment on the habs part.
This is why you dont see 21 year RFA's dealt very often
