Not giving up enough in trade to get him and apparently there is a rumour he is asking 10m aav so if thats even remotely true, you might even be light on his contract

you used the wrong pieces is all

if you're asking for Provorov then they're gonna want Mete, Suzuki ,1st and and 2

They're get a D core of

Gostisbhere-Niskanen
Mete -Sanheim
Hagg-Braun
Myers

PHI gets a 1st and a 2nd to stock depth and try finding another Provorov or Sanheim in the draft.
Suzuki-Ratcliffe re-unite in PHI AHL team after going on an amazing Memorial cup run.(although Suzuki was the clear stand out anyone who roughed up Suzuki was met by Racliffe)
Suzuki is NHL ready as a Winger and was MTL last cut this past season losing his spot to Kotkanemi who was just more impressive because he was younger and playing as good as Suzuki in Camp.
Suzuki as a Center however needs AHL seasoning if you're serious about developing him

this gives PHI the Value they need to move Provorov at a price both teams can live with .
MTL gets an upgrade to Mete at a similar age who can play here long term with Weber .

MTL does gives up a lot for sure but long term by 2021-22 or 2022-23 you're looking at a D core of note all around the same age for the first time since the 1970's .

Provorov - Juulsen
Romanov-Brook
Struble-Weber
Fleury

sure we loose Suzuki but we needed a LD more then we needed a 3rd Center prospect behind KK and RP as we've got 2-3 good middle 6 Center prospects developing now and playing Suzuki there would be a waste . developing him as a RW seems pointless when Caufield is in the Pipeline with Ylonen 1-2 years away from making an NHL debut and Gallagher holding things down untill then with Lehkonen and Armia.

but PHI would need to walk away a clear winner similar to Sakic trading Duchene or Dubois trading Kadri

the 22 year old was shouldered with the burden of being the undisputed #1 since his first NHL season at age 20 .
his minutes went from 21 to 24 to 25 in his first 3 years .

but you got to keep in mind he's never had a right handed Defense partner to feed him 1 timers
its Mcdonald , Gostisbhere and Sanheim all Left handed shots who played by him with Gudas the Goon being the exception (like playing emelin on top line it was outta desperation )

Give Provorov a player like Shea Weber or Jeff Petry and he succeeds
you'll see him light it up with Niskanen this year in PHI as Niskanen can keep him shooting all game long , great right handed playmaking D

This is the most rational comment I've ever seen on this site. Well said.

I do agree with everything you just said but i think the 1st is too much. Mete, Suzuki and 2nd should be enough imo. Especially since Provorov wants 10M and the fact that Suzuki is one of the league’s top prospects (13th overall). Habs have Romanov, Harris, Struble, Leskinen coming up on the left side. They won’t be in a bad spot in a couple years regardless. Add the fact that the draft is in Montreal next year and I doubt they give up their first round pick.

yeah if its for 10m sure but what they say and what they sign for are 2 different things

Subban wanted 10m , settled for 10m signing bonus the first 2 years and took less
i believe the same thing can be done with Provorov if you guarantee him 4-6 m the first 3 years to ensure he's payed during the lockout

i think you nailed it in the 8.5-9m range

they dont have to give up a 2020 1st to make it work
if you feel you have to just make it top 10 protected
or they can make a trade at the Draft if a player they want is available like PHI did with STL trading Schenn when they saw Frost was still available .
Danault a 26 year old Center who will be getting ready to enter his final year by that Draft is someone who could help land us a 1st
