Group 1 RFA. If anything he would get less on a 1 year deal.

There is no chance that he will be offered that or he would take it. He would end up sitting out the year before that happened.

Why would Zona do that? That’s rhetorical. They wouldn’t.

They’re pretty cap crunched and he’s a 4th liner for them

He’s got a 1.5 cap hit for 3 years and is still an RFA then. Starting to show something. Everyone is signed. Hossa goes to LTIR. No issues.

Yes I do know what group 1 RFA's are. Although that has absolutely nothing to do with what I just said.

A) Boston would not offer him a 1 year extension taking him directly to a term at which he can be given an offer sheet
B) McAvoy would not except that because he knows he can get more money out of it.

Him being a group 1 RFA does benefit Boston in terms of him having no bargaining room. But it does not mean that McAvoy will sign that S*** contract or that Boston would even offer it lol

They did it with Reilly Smith and Torey krug. Why wouldn’t they do it with mcavoy? Especially when they’re so cap crunched right now? Also, mcavoy could not get more money out of it. Again, look at how the bruins handled the Krug and Smith contracts.

It’s actually very far from a sh*t contract. Probably one of the best bridges they could give him right now.

The difference between McAvoy and Krug and Smith is that at the time Krug was a third pair powerplay specialist and smith was a middle 6 complimentary winger. Not the future No. 1 defenseman on the team.

At the start of the season it is very likely for Miller and Moore to be on LTIR at which point Boston will sign Carlo for long term at around the value which you said and McAvoy to a short bridge deal similar to what Winnipeg did with Trouba and Morrissey. 2 years 4.5M- 6M

Smith was coming off a 51 point season and krug had 40 + 10 in 12 playoff games. Krug is a #1 offensive dman and smith is a first line forward now

Morrisey’s group 1 RFA contract was 2 years 3.1 million. If it was 1 year it probably would’ve been 2.3-2.5

Trouba was never a group 1 RFA

Also, highly doubt they put both miller and Moore on LTIR. That just creates a future cap headache

At the time that Krug signed that deal he was a 40pt powerplay specialist that was undersized and would never see top 4 minutes.

Reilly Smith's contract was signed after his first full season in the league. They are not even remotely comparable to McAvoy. He has been a top pair defenseman eating up 24 minutes a night since he came into the league in the playoffs!

Josh Morrisey is probably McAvoy's most comparable player and like you say 2 years 3.1M. Because no team in their right mind would sign a one year deal to a group 1 RFA while the have so much control. The will go for a minimum of 2.

Josh Morrisey also did not come into the league as a top pairing defenseman. His first year he was hardly a top4. He cam into the league behindMyers, Buff, and Trouba on the depth chart. SO, obviously he wouldn't be offered the same amount of money as someone that has been without question, one of the top pairing defenseman in Boston. That gives you at least 1M more then the deal Morrisey signed. Then you take into account that Morrissey signed that contract when the cap was lower. Which gives McAvoy another 0.5M on top of what Morrissey had.

so now we are at 4.5M on a two year deal at least. A 1 year deal makes no sense and will never happen.

Okay you clearly know what you’re talking about (no sarcasm) which is nice since I’ve never met a fan who could actually provide logical evidence as to why McAvoy could get more money and term as a group 1 RFA so I say we just rest our cases and see what happens. However I will add that the bruins could bring up his injury issues as a knock to his AAV. And his agent could encourage him just to take any respectable bridge deal. Ideally I think the bruins should shoot for 2 years, 3-3.7mil

(Repeat)

And there's no need to trade for Crouse. ARI would prefer to keep him; he plays LW and the Bruins have internal options. They would/should also try to include that second in a possible Backes move.
