Created by: KCarry74
Team: 2019-20 Montreal Canadiens
Initial Creation Date: Aug. 22, 2019
Published: Aug. 22, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I think this team could do well. Even with Tatar gone.

Next year line could be something like :

Domi - KK/RP/PD - Gally
Drouin - KK/RP/PD - Suzuki
Lehkonen - KK/RP/PD - Ylonen
Crouse - Weal - Armia

Romanov - Weber
Leddy - Brooks
Kulak - Fleury
Chiarot - Juulsen fighting for a spot

Price
Primeau/any 2nd G.

*Byron is dealt draft night with some picks to gain position in the draft. Byron + pick for a better pick could be done
Trades
1.
MTL
  1. 2021 4th round pick (SJS)
SJS
  1. Peca, Matthew ($650,000 retained)
Additional Details:
They need player with really low cap hit. Peca at 650k for a year is perfect for them. They should pay a 6th or 7th but for the retention and the help, i think they could manage to spend a 4th pick. Anyway, it's minor trade
2.
MTL
  1. Crouse, Lawson
  2. 2020 1st round pick (ARI)
  3. 2020 4th round pick (ARI)
Additional Details:
IMO, Ari will be good this year. I think Chayka will try to add some scoring touches in a young team. Tatar will join Keller, Kessel, Schmatlz, Hinsotroza and Stepan to complete a good core of forward.

1st is lottery protected.

Mtl could target a guy like Crouse, Fischer or Garland. I took Crouse because he's already signed to a low contract.
ARI
  1. Tatar, Tomas ($2,000,000 retained)
  2. 2021 4th round pick (SJS)
Additional Details:
Tatar will be the odd man out. KK, Poehling, Danault, Gally, Lehkonen, Armia will all need extension. With CC, NS, JI, JY coming, some dominos will fall. I think they will try to get full value at TDL with retained salary.

I also switched 4 because draft is in Mtl so, why not
3.
MTL
  1. 2020 5th round pick (CBJ)
  2. 2020 7th round pick (CBJ)
Additional Details:
Korpisalo is great, but he still lacks of consistance IMO. Maybe i'm wrong but hey, it's still a minor move.
4.
NYI
  1. Mete, Victor
  2. Vejdemo, Lukas
  3. 2021 2nd round pick (MTL)

Correct for this year, it would take more than that. We would need immediate help. But I would take this next year when we need to clear space. This clears $4M in cap for the Islanders.

NYI is kinda trying to compete. So u can do a Danault or Tatar straight up for Leddy. Or if you want to do a prospect/picks deal, something like Lehkonen or Mete + B prospect + 2nd.

I could see Mete + prospect + 2nd. Let me arrange this

Tatar is older and need extension. Drouin is already signed and is right where we need players to be agewise

I know, but Tatar is much better overall player than Drouin and you have the money!

Tatar's contract expire when BG, RP, KK, PD will need big money contract. With MD signed the year before i could become tight. If tatar puts up 60+ 2 times in a row, he would ask for more money than Drouin is right now.

From a NYI standpoint I don't hate the trade and this is the kind of trade we should be making to move out Leddy (if not for a Top 6 FW). My only issue is that we don't need Mete, we have enough D prospects on both the Left and Right side. Trading Leddy is to open up a spot for Aho (the other one) on the NHL roster. I'd have to think any trade for Leddy has to start with a Center prospect, so one of Poehling/Suzuki/Evans plus additional picks/prospects depending on which of those 3 is the main piece.

It has to be Evans. Suzuki and Poehling wouldn't be able IMO

I'm okay with Evans being the Center prospect coming back, but an another B level prospect and a High pick would need to be added. Something like Evans, B Level Prospect and a 2021 1st round (maybe 2nd round as I'm not entirely sure of Evans' actual value here).

Montreal's need at LD is long term I can see Mete easily replacing Chiarot in 3 years. If Montreal wants Leddy they should trade something else so as to not force themselves to take the riskier approach and draft one

An LD can be easily accessible if you sign Gardiner (i know he wants 7 mil so you clear out space)

Habs top goals are probably to get a RW and a top line centre, which is why they offer sheeted Aho
