2020 Cup champs

Created by: gregb569
Team: 2019-20 Pittsburgh Penguins
Initial Creation Date: Aug. 22, 2019
Published: Aug. 22, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
This team has the ability to roll 4 lines that all can produce. If JP flames out (which I know I'm going to get a comment saying he sucks) promote Kahun/Horny/McCann up to 2nd line and insert Simon into the lineup.

The defence IMO is pretty solid. 1st pair is top 5 in the league, if MP makes the jump (I think he does) he'll play the DFD role with Schultz who I think has a big year (fully healthy, contract year)
Gards/Benning is a very solid bottom pair, and both would probably average 18+ a night with Gards seeing PP2 time most likely with Schultz

Murray in a contract year should be licking his chops at Bob/Vasy contract, expect him to put up good numbers.

Line 1: Moore IMO would be a great add to the Sid&Jake show, he's extremely fast and pretty skilled. Would expect him to fill a Dupuis type role
Line 2: This line (obviously) is relying on Malkin to staying healthy. Gally I think can be a steal for PIT if he finds his form from a few years back. If JP can't figure it out I'll officially label him as a bust and we can slide Horny into his spot.
Line 3: Bjug played at almost a 40pt pace last year, McCann has great speed/skill and Kahun hopefully builds on his almost 40pt rookie season.. this could be a very underrated 4th line.
4th line: Lots of speed and grit here with Tanev and Horny. Don't know how Teddy fares in the NHL but I liked what I saw from him last year

There is no reason at all to take Johnson. Nobody wants Gudbranson, 2/3 teams have cap problems/are very tight.

Idk if EDM accepts

Gardiner won't come to play on the third pair; too low for Pettersson and bet Puljujarvi will ask for more

Most importantly, Pens won't (probably) even make playoffs/getting rolled in the 1st round.

When you're moving up in the draft 20 ish spots there is. Especially for a team who has AMPLE cap space, this won't affect them, ever.
Guds is moveable
Gards could play top 4, I'd just rather MP play there, he's an RFA with 1 good year of hockey, I think he'll get a bridge, If I'm too low we have over 2m left in cap.
Puljuarvi won't ask/get more..

This team 100% makes the playoffs.. lol
We haven't seen a healthy, rested Sid/Geno/Letang for YEARS..

The link I posted had him going for a 6th and I thought the same but no one on there said it was unrealistic, so I went with it!

I’m sitting here looking at this imagining Trevor Moore playing with Crosby...I need it in my life.

1. The Leafs aren't trading Trevor Moore for a worthless 6th round pick. He's slotted into their bottom-6 and they think very highly of him.
2. At this point in the summer, no team is taking Johnson and Gudbranson off the Penguins books.

We can flip/flop D2 and D3. I don't think of them as line 2 and line 3 I would roll them out evenly with a HEAVY dose of Dumo-Letang

That funny moment when they won't be moving up 5 spots tears of joy

Pit 1st: 20+
Dal 2nd: 40+

40-20 to me is 20, but idk what math you're performing

So move up 20+ picks to take a terrible player for 4 more years. Still doesn't add up.

when you're a rebuilding team with ample cap space it kinda makes sense to take on bad contracts for assets but okay
